I am looking to go back to work part time after being a full time mum for many years. I did do some work for hubby's business but that finished two years ago so I haven't had any paid work since then, so thought I would apply for JSA and just had a letter back saying I'm not entitled to it ..:( because I've not paid enough class 1 NI contributions. Yet I worked fulltime before that.

Bit of a bummer really as the money would have helped with posting cvs and letters to people, got my JSA interview on Monday which I will have to take Robyn with me as I don't have any child care.

Will I be entitled to any sort of money? Seems unfair that I want to return to work but can't get any money to help. :dohh:

If you dont already qualify for anything like IS then no you wont get anything. They have a period of time which you need to work in to be able to get job seekers. I guess they assume that as you are managing while you where not looking for work then you will be ok when you are looking for work. lots of places let you email cvs ect now so that may help. you can also sign on with agencys and you maybe able to get some temp work x

I wish it was that easy! Temp work is no good as I need to know exactly which days to put my youngest in to nursery or child minders, and what hours etc.
Also because my previous job is so specialised I need to send out letters advertising myself, I'm also interested in a different career path but again that is also quite specialised.
We are not really coping on my hubby's wages so that's why I am looking for work again.

I think unfortunately it comes down to they will only give money to help someone return to work if they are already costing the system money, as you aren't at the moment you're not a government priority to get back to work.

It would probably depend on hubby's earrings if your entitled to anything, I get nothing because of ohs wages x

Will they still help you with cv prep or finding jobs if you don't get JSA?
So I won't have to go and sign on every two weeks then if I'm not entitled to JSA.

Because all I have ever done is veterinary nursing I am finding it hard to get employers to look past that and the skills I do have. Not just dealing with fluffy animals but receptiion, sales, appointments, customer service etc.

They will still help you but only if you 'sign on' so you will still have to go every 2 weeks and show you are looking for work and sign on but you wont get any money at all. IF you dont sign on they wont help you - it sucks I looked into it and decided just to do things myself!

Went for the interview this am and was treated like something they trod in, firstly they told me the wrong place, so then had to leg it across town then when I got there they refused to see me as I was a couple of minutes late then accused me of re-arranging the appointment when it was them who had booked me in to the wrong area and then changed it for me.... Got to go back tomorrow but not sure if I will make it in time...

tbh there are plenty sites both advertising jobs and offering cv templates so i wouldnt think it worth the hassle to sign on every 2 weeks for nothing

Went today and the girl was nice, if I sign on I still get national insurance stamps? But no JSA. So can't really see the point of signing on every two weeks, not even eligible for training courses. Oh well, worth a try to see what help then could give.

You will get national insurance stamps anyway if you are claiming child benefit :)
