Maybe it's a cultural/country thing but those who find out the gender are more of a minority in the UK, if anything I got pressure NOT to find out. Most NHS trusts won't tell you, you have to have a private scan. I chose to do it for my terminally ill father in law who wasn't expected to make it past when she was born. I wanted him to know. Otherwise I wouldn't have.
If we ever get to second time round, we don't really want to know but our daughter is adamant she wants a sister. Depending how she is, we might gender scan, just so we can change her mindset and avoid any unpleasantness if she ends up with a brother.
Most PCT's in England will tell you but will say "it looks like a girl/boy" they cant say 100% in case its wrong.
