Not having bloods done for downs

I belies those bloods test for other really awful chromosomal abnormalities as well though and I feel people should do them for that reason even if they aren't thinking they would terminate for downs. But personally I think there are other horrible things you could spare your baby from as well as prepare yourself if you are very high risk for downs. But of course this is a very personal decision so just make sure you talk to your oh and do what is right for you.

I think in the uk its only downs but im not a 100% sure, I had other bloods yesterday and they check for other things.

It tests for other chromosome abnormalities too, some of which are not compatible with life.

Midwife didnt mention this, she just said it was a bloods test for downs. She said can I ask you would you terminate if your child had downs and we said no, she said why have the test done then. She said you can get good odds but your child can still have downs.

Its such a hard decision.

I had blood tests done because I didn't think there'd be any harm in it. We're scheduled for an NT scan as well. I don't really know what we'd do if the results came back to show something was very potentially wrong. I just want to know.

We've decided to decline but are wavering a little just for the chance for the extra scan. Like a lot of you others, we decided there really was no point because of all of the false positives and the fact that we're not likely to terminate either way.

The test in the US is for three different types of trisomy, one of which is downs. The other is Edwards Syndrome and...another one I can't remember off the top of my head. Sorry if that wasn't very helpful.

I think the other is Patau's Syndrome. True they are rare, which is why your midwife maybe didn't mention it.. after all Down's is the one everyone's heard of. Doesn't mean they don't exist though.
