Iam now 40+2. Iam hoping for a VBAC however just had a third sweep and cervix is still long and posterior so not too hopeful. I've got an elective section booked for 22/4/14 and have been told when I go into hospital that day they will examine me and can try and break my waters if I want and it's possible.

Iam just not sure what to do. I know it's impossible to say but how long after having waters broken would contractions start has anyone experience of this?. I ve just thought I could end up being in hospital as long as an elective section if iam trying to give birth if iam there from the start I.e not at home until I really need to go in. If iam being induced does this not increase likelihood of ending in section anyway ? I think iam veering towards to having a elective section if if comes to it and opting not to have my waters broken but does anyone have any experience of being in the same situation?.

Personally i'd let them break my water first... There are risks, like baby not getting in the right position and it endeding in a csection. Or labor might not even start...

But it may and you may end up having a great birth experience, if not, both out comes lead to a csection.

As far as a time it could happen right away if your favorable for labor, or it could take hours, or not happen.

i had my waters broken at 9:30am with DS1 and was in full blown labour (without any drips etc) by 11am x

I've been through this. They broke my water with my 2nd baby and it took a bit of walking around and a few hrs and my contractions started. I didn't want any pitocin to get contractions going. I was told 50% of women go into labour naturally once their water has gone. If it were me I would give it a go;) might as well try;)

This was what I was going to do with my second. Was booked in for 41 weeks to break waters (measuring big) but went into labour at home at 40+6 and he was born 11.10pm. Vbac. I'd personally try. If you end up needing a sectiom you haven't lost anything.

It's more the thought of if the labour is not progressing and I need assistance I.e forceps that freaks me out. I would actually rather have a section.

I'd definitely try for a VBAC before any c-section. It's the 22nd today, any luck?

Hi all, had my baby on the 22 nd. Started to get labour signs on 21st and was admitted to hospital overnight due to increased BP.

Was examined on morning of 22nd and was 4 cm dilated decided to have waters broken which was fine. Unfortunately had to be continuously monitored but could still move around to a degree. Still wasn't having enough contractions 2 hours later so was put on sintocin drip (?sp) to speed things along which it did was getting stronger contractions and started to feel need to push so rexamined but was only about 5-6 cm and they thought babys head wasn't in right position. So unfortunately ended in emergency section. Was gutted at the time but at least I tried and I have a gorgeous baby boy to show for it. Thanks for the advice ladies.

I'd try to go.natural every time over a section. Sections is absolutely necessary. Trust me doing it naturally is just brills! Such a beautiful experience
