I think because my son is breastfed and my flow is not fast he has a really hard time with sippy cups. He is still refusing a bottle even though he was taking a MAM one with newborn teat for a few weeks but then he went off it. Anyways so I have introduced juice in a sippy cup and I have about 3 different kinds, all of which are fast for him even though they say they are right for his age. I have a nuk one which seems the best as it has a bottle sort of teat and the flow is not so fast which he copes semi-well with- that one is 6 months and up. I have a MAM one which is waaaaaaaay to fast for him, also 6 months and up and I have a PLAYTEX which is 9 months and up- again fast.
What should I do? Is it just a matter of persevering with it til he gets the hang of it?
It literally spill all over him and he can learn to hold it himself because then it will whoooosh all over him.

I think its a case of persevering. I had the worlds cheapest non gimmicky freebie sippy cup and she likes to hold it and put it to her mouth but not tip it up yet - well not far enough as I only put 20mls in it at a time.

i also put very little in, but your LO is quite small still mine is 9 months

We're just trying to get Poppy used to a sippy cup (she has never got on with bottles either). We offer it with every evening meal. She hasn't really got the hang of it but I would think, with time, she will do. We use this one:

Maybe the key is, rather than looking for something that is similar to the breast, ditch that idea and get him to learn a different skill. This is my theory anyway.

Oh and cupcake, if the flow is too fast, you can get a little plastic insert which acts like a reservoir to gather a little water. You insert this into the cup beneath the lid.

Caitlyn won't drink from a sippy, she just drinks from a normal cup x

We also give Poppy water in the ones Jemima uses. We have been doing this for quite a while and she has now just about got the hang of drinking from them. She spits a lot of water out, but at least some of it stays down!

My sister suggested I do this as she did the same with her LO - bottles for milk, sippy cup for water etc.

Use a bottle with a new born teat, then gradually work your way thru the teats and then one day hand him the sippy cup...its all about gradual processes not sudden change...

Goodluck!!

He wont take a bottle..

Aaron always refused to take a bottle. We tried him on a few sippy cups but the one he got on best with is the one Jemima linked. He spluttered and dribbled everywhere at first but eventually got used to it. I would just persevere.

hey hun same problem then i bought the tommee tippee cup with the rubber spout its really hard to get out anything unless they suck really hard

The nuk one is really great! Kathryn has been bottle fed since she was 1 and a half months, but she still had trouble with the sippy cup. We tried a playtex at first but she couldn't quite get it, it seems that the problem is the spout being to hard, short and thin. The nuk one is easy to grip and the spout is soft, longer and thicker. It took some time for her to get used to it, but now she can use it really well. Still wont use the platex one though. Just keep trying and they will get it eventually.

Maybe try giving him the sippy cup as a toy to begin with, so he can get used to it that way..

lol you'll have to get creative
