Anybody had any dealings with this? I put a bit of a rant of FB last night about itching and a couple of friends sent me a link about this. Im not usually one to read medical articles and go "got that" "got that" "yup" but the symptoms are very much like mine.

Currently awaiting a call back from midwife

I haven't had the name that you called it but I'm pretty sure that itching is a sign of pre eclampsia. Do you have a headache at all? That was my only sign of pre e but they asked me about itching. Hope your midwife calls back soon xxx

Im awaiting results from my blood tests now.

OC is basically the liver stopping removing bile and acids from your body.

How did this turn out for you? I'm considering getting tested.

I have OC but also my placenta is calcifying so i am being induced at 37 weeks.

I have been diagnosed as having OC however I now think it was just some tablets I was taking as my bile acids and ALT levels have gone right down!

Tartlet you can't get tested for OC. There are no tests they can do that say you have OC, they have to rule every other type of liver problem out first before they can diagnose you with OC. Also OC is very rare if you haven't had it in a previous pregnancy and if the children both have the same fathers.

Glad that you got checked though hun, it's a lot more serious than people think and it isn't a very widely known complication of pregnancy. Hope that everything goes smoothly with the delivery of LO :flower: x

I had blood drawn today to check my liver enzymes and bile salts. Will update with results when I get them.

I had this condition develope around 34 weeks and it was finally diagnosed and I was induced at 38 weeks. OC was absolute hell! The itching was so bad that it left me with scars and I used to bleed. My dh used to have to hide the forks in the house because I would steal them and scratch my lights out with them lol. At night I had to take medication as it was impossible to sleep through the itch. It all ended when baby was Born thank god! IM dreading it time :(

It is horrible, I have had it in all 3 pregnancies, oddly it came on earlier and seemed worse with the boys. I had not heard of it when I first started itching at 35 weeks pg in 2002 with my eldest, luckily I phoned my midwife at the time and she told me to go into the unit to be tested.

One blood test later and diagnosed with OC and booked in for induction for 37 weeks. I also has very close daily monitoring as they believed it was linked to still births.

Any severe itching, particularly on hands and feet (like really bad pin pricks on soles of feet and hands) you should get it checked.

I'm dreading it this time round as I am expecting twins, so am sure the hormones will kick it off sooner. :nope:

xxx
