I'm exactly 10 days away from my due date April 14th. But due to baby's size Doc wants to induce me in two days. She says baby is NOT growing as she should be..pretty nerve racking gotta say! I'm worried to be honest, although she says not to be. She says it could be due to the fact that this is my first preg. or that the placenta has simply had enough and baby wants out. Perhaps its constricting her growth i'm thinking. She's currently weighing in at 6 pounds, 6 pounds 11 ounces I believe i heard. So yeah, she's still considered full-term, so that rules out a pre-mature baby. But just to not risk anything, they're inducing me on Monday. Although its nice to know when its going to happen..I still can't help but to freak out. Why exactly could it be that shes not growing accordingly? What should I do to prepare?!! Do any of you have any advice for me from exp. perhaps?? PLEASE..PLEASE?!!!!! Should I even eat before going in? Lol. The baby is currently positioned for a vaginal birth so up until this point there is no chance for a c-section. Just so much running through my head

No advice but I'm in same boat, being induced monday & my baby is at about 5lbs so I'm stalking lol xxx

I ate around 11am then induced at 3 pm. Was a long labor so I'm glad I did! It's your choice to get the epidural, so if you want to go natural but change your mind- that's ok! I made it 6 hours before I caved (best decision I made lol cuz I'm so low tolerance to pain). Hope yours goes quick and smooth!

Well, no real tips because the day goes different for everyone. But I just got induced 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. So, try and relax. Don't be nervous about it, I was nervous for so long leading up to it and it was so simple.

Not sure why she isn't growing like she should be, but keep in mind they are wrong about those things a lot. They told me my daughters femurs were 5 weeks behind before she was born and she came out tall with perfectly long legs.

Only tip I can give is, enjoy the best day of your life. You'll know it is when you look into your daughters eyes.

:hugs:

I was induced with DS. I had a larger lunch and then smaller dinner before I went in, so yes, definitely eat at least a little something!

My contractions were quite strong with the pitocin, so I opted for the epi as soon as it was offered. Not sure how it would compare to natural labor, but it was definitely needed in my situation!

Above all, just trust in your doctors. They want to get the baby out safely and quickly also. And concentrate on the end goal! That LO will be in your arms before you know it!

Thanks so much Everyone for your responses! I've been reading a lot on being induced and the pros and cons about it. Obviously i know its better to go into birth naturally but truth is if you or your baby's health is at risk...I would much rather be induced. The idea for this is whats kind of keeping me sane. Yet I cant help to wonder, although I am going to be induced..how can I at least improve my chances of still having a vaginal birth vs. a c-section? I've heard of walking..but is sex or anything else something i should try?? Or things to try the day of to help with opening my cervix (dilating) to speed things up?

Hi! I was induced twice. First at 37 weeks due to complications ( that turned out I did not have). Because it was a first baby it took them 2 days to start my labour. 2 doses of gel, then swiping membranes, then pitocin. I ended up with epidural even before I started to feel any contractions. Again, the doctor insisted I will needed with pitocin.
At the end it all turned out ok, not a natural labour at all but my daughter was absolutely fine which is the main point.
With my second I was nearly 2 weeks overdue and they had to give me 2 doses of gel. I went into labor about an hour after last dose. I think walking up and down the stairs quite fast after gel helped me to go into labour. Otherwise nothing else that I tried before helped (sex, walking, chilies etc).
Despite 5 weeks difference in gestation between my first and my second the later was born with the same weight. I did not put any weight at all with me second during third trimester. However he was born healthy and now is totally ok. Some people just have small babies and you might be one of them. Don't worry. The us is not 100% precise.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! You have put a smile on my face :)

It was a long process for me, so I'm guessing you'll need to eat if you are the same, but you might struggle and that's ok. You don't want too much in your stomach anyway.

I went in on the Sunday morning, induced 3 times, Sunday morning, Monday morning, Monday evening. They said if the third time didn't work, it would be a c-section the next day. Anyway third time a charm and she was born at 8.46am on the Tuesday morning.

I have to say it's not the best birth experience, you're hooked up to a drip and they say it's more painful, but I don't have anything to compare that with yet. The pains only got awful for me at 5am and it passed quickly. All in all, I didn't enjoy it, but it wasn't so bad. Hoping for natural this time.

I was 38 weeks, about the same as you, if baby isnt ready to leave it might takes its time. I've heard 40 plus week inductions are more successful and quicker, but you never know, I've seen plenty of women on here who were in and out in a day after being induced early.

Good luck x

it's sooooo different for everyone, we were told ooh induction can take days so had a bag of magazines, puzzle books, snacks...think we unpacked that bag when Eli was about 3 months old lol

For me my circumstances were slightly different, I had preeclampsia and was booked for induction at 38 weeks, waters went at 37+3 so induction was moved forward (think my body was ready tbh!).

I got a pessary inserted and within an hour threw up quite dramatically then full contractions 1 minute apart, 2.5 hours later he was born. My son was 7lb 5oz (after being told he was HUGE...they just honestly don't know), back to back, i had no stitches or tears and only used gas and air for pain relief. He went straight onto the breast.

We had some trouble with breastfeeding BUT that was down to me catching a chest infection in hospital and being put on antibiotics which gave me thrush of the breasts (didn't even know that existed), however in terms of supply etc we were fine. Eli was a little sleepy and shocked the first week so I had to wake him every 2 hours to get him to feed but after that things went great and I bf for 16 months.

I think this time if I were to get induced I would still pack all that stuff just in case. I would also eat a good breakfast (I had cereal, would do it again so something really plain but full of energy like weetabix, oatmeal etc). I also got VERY thirsty during and afterwards and needed sugar so in my birth bag regardless is diluting juice that I can add to water to take the gross taste out of my mouth and keep me going a bit.

There's no way to know exactly how it will go, my induction went really well at the time, try not to worry too much :)

(oh also if you are in america things are a bit different i think the drip is a slightly more aggressive approach, as i put in the breastpump thread though if bf is really important to you, it's well worth researching pain medication in advance to know your options and the impact on baby)

I had an induction with my first and although it went on for three days of nothing really happening when it finally did it was quick so it wasn't to bad !! I would definitely eat to keep up energy , don't worry to much about baby's growth as my first stopped growing and infact got smaller I got told to expect a really tiny baby then I had him at 5lbs 2 oz so they were way off when they guessed he'd weight about 3 lbs !! This time round I've been told baby's growth has stopped but I'm not worrying too much as I'm a small person anyway and baby most of the time will grow to the size it will naturally beable to fit through your pelvis maybe you have a small pelvis so baby has stopped knowing that is how big it needs to be to escape how it's ment to .Natural sponanious labour is ment to be less painful but I didn't really notice much difference between my first and my second which was natural ! Induction is different for everyone and totally depends on how your body reacts to the hormones I personally have a bit of a dodgy cervix shall we say so it took longer then most but I know allot of women that have been induced and had baby within the hour ! As for helping it along definitely sex and walking and squats I swear by going up the stairs side ways two by two as much as you can it's hard and tiring and you look like a total nutter but it does help !! If you want to try herbal stuff epo is ment to help and I'm sure it helped with my second I've recently started raspberry leaf tablets don't know if they help but apparently they do so always a good start !! Hope this has helped abit !! I know it's nerve racking but I'm sure you will be fine and sail through it quickly !! X good luck x

Omg....awesome responses, thank you so much everyone!!!!!!! I'm a little more comfortable with the idea now :)
