I had my baby about 72 hours ago.

I do not want to breastfeed, my breast have started filling in today and I am in so much pain. How do I relieve the pain? and how do I dry up my breast?

I breast fed my first so I did not have this problem.

Help me please!

I remember my mom telling me a warm cloth placed on them. But I just took pain killers and within a couple of days the pain and solidness passed

I wore a really tight bra and took painkillers. It eased in a couple of days, but I remember how painful it was to begin with!

I thought it was put a cold cloth on them? Rather than warm? I may be wrong so I apologise if I am.
Ive also read keeping your boobs away from the warm showers/baths.
Think I'll be taking painkillers and using cold wet cloths to soothe them.
Good luck, hopefully it'll pass in a day or two.

:hugs: It gets better!

Here are some thing you can do:

Wear a tight sports bra

Take pain killers - advil works best in my opinion

Hand express a small amount to relieve the pain (you can find a video online)

Cabbage leaves in your bra work wonders... Make them cold. While heat will relieve the pain, it actually can increase milk production which you do not want right now.

Taking birth control with estrogen can help - do you want to be on the pill? If so, speak with your OBGYN

An antihistamine like Benadryl will dry you up, but will also make you sleepy so use with caution

Good luck!

Ok I am taking 800 my of ibuprofen every 8 hours. The ibuprofen gives me like 3-4 hours of less intense pain but then it comes right back.

I tried cabbage leaves and it seemed to hurt more :-(

I can't even lay down from the pain and I am soooooo tired. Tomorrow I will do the cold cloths. It almost feels like there is no end in sight! Stupid big boobs!

Try taking paracetamol every 4 hours and your ibuprofen every 4 hours but alternating them so you're taking something every 2 hours to keep the pain relief topped up at all times. Give it another day or two and they'll ease off, I'm dreading going through this myself in the next few weeks!! Let us know hoe you get on. X

Talk to your OB or midwife! I know they can give you something to help the milk dry up if you're really struggling.

I would try and express in the shower to try and relieve a bit. Also massage and lots of painkillers.x

I remembered waking up and crying because my breasts were already full of milk and they were like cement to the touch! What I did to relieve the pain is to pump out the milk 2-3 hrs interval (which helps a lot). Add cold compress too, to numb the pain but the best way to relieve it is just to get the milk out

Ok, pain is subsided and my breast are soft again thank goodness! I had 3 days of barely being able to move. I took a hot shower and let the water run on my chest. Milk started coming out :growlmad:. However once that happend I got some relief. I am now just keeping breast pads in my bra until I dry up ... With my first I believe it took about a month to stop leaking and to completely dry up all the way about 4 months. Hopefully it is sooner this time. Thank you all for the advice.
