I wash LO's dummies, and I let them air dry. Then I put them in an airtight tupperware, and store them in a kitchen cupboard.

I saw today that the dummies in the tupperware have spots of black mould on them! The material part of the dummy clip was covered in it too :nope:

I had to thoroughly wash all of the dummies, sterilise (which I don't normally do), and am leaving them to air dry again. I've thrown the dummy clip in the bin, because while I can clean and sterilise it, I don't want to use industrial detergents when the dummy clip will be sucked on by LO, and if I don't use something strong, the material will probably still hold spores.

I'm now faced with having to find a new way of storing the dummies. I thought air drying and storing in an airtight container was good enough, but apparently not. How on earth do I store them now? We've thrown out the cases they came in, and TBH they're no different to a tupperware when it comes to mould. OH said that they must have been wet inside for mould to grow in the tupperware

I feel awful, because while the dummies are thoroughly cleaned, I just grab one out of the box and stick it straight in her mouth. You don't expect to have to check them when you know you've cleaned them and stored them well. I just hope she doesn't get sick; because I have no idea how long they've been like this.

I don't use dummies with Matthew but we did in the very early days I usually sterilised them and let them sit on a couple of pieces of kitchen roll to get the water out then put them in the little plastic cases or I kept them in the open air

I'm reluctant to keep them in the open because we get a lot of fruit flies. Our flat is on the ground floor beside all the bins for the entire building, so even if all of our dishes are washed and bins emptied, they still come in the house :dohh:

Awwww poor you. How about under a muslin cloth so they can still dry but be covered?

I have never bothered to store dummies i have about 8 dotted about and just grab one when i need one, quick wash under the tap if it looks dusty or a suck from me but thats it

dont feel bad you didnt know, im sure bubs will be fine once they are grabbing things and putting toys in their mouths they get all sorts of stuff in there mouth, you cant sterilise it all

I do exactly the same as this but wash in washing up liquid first to remove any residue, rinse in hot water and then put in the steam steriliser with all the bottles.

Do you think it's just the dummy clip that didn't dry properly and mould grew?

I basically do the same as you, wash and then air dry and store in a tupperware box. Never had mould. If you boiled them for a couple of mins perhaps they'd dry quicker? It's probably the heat that allows the mould to grow so quickly.

I'm sure your girly will be fine :hugs:

Ooh err, I have always steam sterilised Ruby's dummies then left a couple on the side in her room and / or popped one into a holder. Never dried them, they have condensation on them. They've never got mouldy but I'm worried now!

With the dummies we got we got like little caps that go over the sucky bit. After I've cleaned them I let them dry & then put the caps on and keep them in the change bag & I've never had any problem with doing it that way :flower:

I wash and sterlise Jenna's dummy's and the just keep them in a tub. I have had no idea that mould could grow in them!!

I will have a good look before I give her them from now on.

One of amelies cups does this at the valve. I take it apart every time i wash it and make sure theres no mould left on it but i dont chuck it away

Lol I look terrible now, I have dummies dotted around the house and wash them in the sink quickly or just suck on them lol xxx

can you not just leave them in the steriliser until you need them? thats what i used to do with Jack and Leahs

This is what I do. I just keep them in the steriliser. I strelize them all once a day xx

Im likely to agree with this, most likely the cloth on the clip was still a little damp

Not sure, I don't remember the last time I used it and if I cleaned it. If it's dirty, I wash it, and I normally leave it to dry properly, but there's always a chance. The material was the most affected by mould, but I assumed it was because it grows better in material? Not sure.
