On Fetal Alert..and c-section worries.

hi girls,
I am on fetal alert and anethetist alert due to a big ovarian cyst, and the fact I was born with congenital clicky hips. My main worry is the fact that I went into cardiac arrest when I was 12 hours old and was diagnosed with superventricular tachycardia, and my mum was told the only time it might be of danger is during my own pregnancy. I'm having regular ECG scans to check my heart but in labour it might get worrying. There is a chance I might have to have a c section which petrifies me. I don't want to be asleep for it and miss those first moments with my baby but I don't know if I could handle being opened up while I'm awake. Anyone had a c section who could tell me what it's like? X

I had a c-section and had a really good experience, even though it was an emergency one! I was aware I had to have one (due to placenta praevia) so I had prepared myself but then went into labour early and got rushed in!

It was a very strange feeling like someone doing the washing up in your tummy, but no pain. I felt strange a few times, but you have to tell the aneathetist what you are feeling and the alter the meds straight away!

Put it this way when I was getting cleaned up and in recovery the nurse asked if it had put me off, I said no way book me in for the next one!! I am very keen to have one this time!!

Hope all goes well honey, just thing if you are awake you get to see bubs straight away and you then won't even care whats going on around you xx

I had an emergency c-section due to pre-eclampsia. I knew I'd need it at some point, so they showed me around the theatre before hand, and introduced me to the medical staff who would be operating on me.

the actual op was fine, i barely felt a thing, and no pain at all. you cant see what they are doing, and your partner or other support person, and the aneathatist can stand by your head and distract you. they even put my ipod music on - sam was born to Queen singing We are the champions!!

once you go in, the baby is out so fast, then the rest of the time you'll be totally distracted by trying to see/kiss him/her from the awkward position of flat on your back!

is there anything specific about the procedure that you are worried about or would like to know more about?

i was terribly anxious about it before hand, so read a lot about it. the medical staff i had (who were all female because i requested) were fab and very flexible - they let me wear my own pyjamas and everything! i can tell you step by step what happened during my c-section if it would help?
