Yeah I had an episiotomy too....they put on my notes I needed it becuase of 'poor maternal effort'....niiicccee!x

Oo I hate that sort of terminology! You're within your rights to say you do or don't want anything you like. Your body, your decision! They can strongly advise but unless you're actually out cold and your OH signs consent it's entirely up to you. I wouldn't have forceps for anything though ended up asking for ventouse with Byron - the natural culmination of all the wrong interventions they did. The epis is usually a necessity to get the tools in though there are occasions when you can get away without with a ventouse. I had on my birth plan that I wanted none of it but after 34hrs and a duff epi there was nothing left to do and I narrowly escaped a section. I'd still rather have the assisted vaginal delivery than a section though, assuming a genuine need.

omg cheeky sods if they wudda bloody checked me the wudda found out izzy was back to back facing upwards and ther head was tilted backwards thats why i was pushing for 4 hrs and no prgress gurrr i done it all on my own tho. :D

I think so.

The forceps scared the hell out of me. My husband was watching with me and he was shocked at the force of it.

In case you didn't see in my post as we posted the same time, yes epis is always done for forceps.

realy thanks for the info next time in my notes am goin to have no forcepts only if its a life or deth matter

I bet there will a lot of 'no forceps to be used' being written on birth plans now...x

yep ha blame one born every min any 1 elses bnb running soooooooo slow

To be honest I'm a bit surprised how many ladies on here didn't realise how violent they are and the risks they carry. Not in any way judging you ladies, it just shows how much isn't said during antenatal care that should be. The MW should becofferimg this sort of info and the choices open to us when we write our birth plans. It's just lazy not to raise these issues and puts women in a very vulnerable state if there are decisions to be made during labour. As this programme shows there is consistently insufficient info provided every time.

my mw didnt even discuss a birth plan or bring it up i asked about a water birth and she just said ring when u start gettin pains an we will book the pool that was it no pain relef what i wanted nothing

My midwife went through the different things that might needed to be done, but the only risks she mentioned was for the epidural...

I will never have forceps again after watching that...xx

See now that is why I get so cross on here and in general! Are we supposed to all be medical experts and research and understand every single possible aspect of medicalised childbirth? :growlmad: It wouldn't be quite so bad if anything was at least explained at the time but it's not. It's all "you have to go and have antibiotics" end of story. No why or pros and cons. We need to take the power back!

thinking of it now i was allowed to push for 4 hrs that cant be right can it?

I don't know as I couldn't push at all because of the epi. Well I tried for an hour before giving up. Did you say your baby was facing forwards? Were you pushing on your back? It sounds a long time to be actively pushing. I don't intend to do forced pushing this labour unless there is foetal distess.

thats 1 thing they were good with i was all over the place over the bed the ball in the shower i ended up having her on the birthing stool wich was brill. i dont no if i was i was just letting my body go with it i was in a trance. yep she was facing the celing with her head tilted backwards so she came out sorta fod first x
