One Born Every Minute is back

Not a good episode for natural birthing. Again...

Why not?

The woman who gave birth without the epidural she so desperately thought she needed .. or the woman with a hole in her heart and leaking valves :/ Both seemed natural to me.

Both. There are never ever any explanations about any of the interventions used, why they are advising it, what the complications might be etc. The heart woman was induced just like that without any consideration of the risks of induction or any explanation of why other than better now rather than tomorrow. There was no explanation of the choice of forceps over ventouse which is a considerably less risky intervention for mother and baby. The other woman who delivered vaginally without assistance was left to push on her back. She was also knocked out for a while on her back which is probably why the baby was facing forwards. Aside from the nature of the births some of the MWs were pretty rude, like the blonde curly haired one kindly suggesting the labour might peter out to nothing - very helpful!

the woman who got induced was because her waters had gone and she didnt no when imagin a major infection with a heart condition me i would perfer the induction

They didn't even think she would make it to term with her heart condition her valve was leaking. The longerthey had left it the more likely it was she would need a section as her heart wouldn't have had he strengh to go through labour and she wanted to try herself. She was given an epidural to help the strain on her heart also and her heart doctor advised how long she could push for before it could damage her heart... When it got To that point they used forceps...

I understand the process thanks. Doesn't mean they shouldn't give her a proper explanation. She thought she had tip the day after and was in tears when they said right we'll induce you now. And certainly there should consideration between forceps and ventouse.

How do you know they didn't offer her a proper explanation? It is filmed over hours and hours and cut down so we see minutes of it. Maybe that is why we shouldn't make assumptions?

ur very right

Because they showed a complete uncut bit with the doctor or mw saying her membrane's had ruptured and so they wanted to induce, better sooner rather than later, she cried, was asked was she upset  and was she ok with that, got a yes let's get it over with. Maybe explanation was provided later but it certainly wasn't went consent was given.

I do also understand about the nature of TV editing, but it doesn't mean I am obliged to agree with how the programme invariably represents birth and the fear it evidently instills in many new mum-to-be viewers. Editors have a choice.

You'll find her in the earlier pages of this thread if you can be bothered to trawl through; it's after the posts about the Christmas episodes.

i think to be honest she cryed because she was scared with her heart problems she cudda died am sorry but if i was in that possistion i would cry to

Of course, who wouldn't be upset? She and her OH did both say though that they thought they would be going away to labour a while and back in the next day.

I'm not sure what we're arguing about here anyway! That she was crying really wasn't my point.

As a mum who had forceps, with no choice really-I can't remember them asking if it was ok to use forceps. That programme scared the hell out of me last night.Am I within my right to demand they don't use forceps if I have another baby?x
