Only 1cm dilated :( Need positive stories!

So I had my 39 week appointment today (the first one where I had an internal check) and I am only 1cm dilated and cervix is still long. I am so disappointed! I've been having contractions off an on for weeks and was sure I'd be further along than that...Now I feel like I'm going to go past my due date/need to be induced.

Anyone only 1cm then go into labor shortly after??

I had a compleypy closed cervix 6 hours before Willow was born.

Those number mean nothing at all

dilation and effacement is not a reliable indicator of when labor may begin, I was only at 2 cms when I went into labor with my first at 40 weeks and 3 days

Means nothing. My friend was completely closed at 40 weeks and not effaced at all. Dr had already booked her induction and said she would have a tough labor. That night after dr's visit her water broke and her son was born 5 hrs later! Best labor ever! Those cervical Checks mean nothing. I remember my friend calling me on her way home from dr feeling gutted and down. Little did she know that that night at midnight her water would break

I will not get checked this time! I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced when they checked me the first time and it took 6 days and my water breaking to kick labor into gear.

Once it did kick it though, it only 6 hours to deliver him! 3 cm to delivery in just under six hours!

Be patient and let your body do it's thing. It sucks and it's uncomfy... but the best thing to do is let your body decide on it's own terms (barring an emergency of course).

It could change at any point and isn't really an indication of when you'll go into to labour

Also keep in mind your not actually over due until you go past 42 weeks so there is still time

I as 2CM and went overdue (41+5) with my first.
I was only 1CM with my second and went early (38+3).

Dilatation and effacement are not good indicators of labor at all some go from being 0cm on day and 10cm that evening. some walk around dilated for weeks and go overdue. It really doesn't mean anything
