What are your opinons on dying your hair while pregnant?

First I heard not to do it, then I heard as long as you are in your second trimester it doesn't matter, then I heard it doesn't do anything you can do it anytime.

I am just wondering what you girls have heard because my hair is starting to look like CRAP! I am just about to be in my third trimester.

I would be getting a root touch up of bleach blonde.

I wouldn't do it. The one thing you're advised to do is keep things away from your roots, I certainly wouldn't go and apply something directly at my roots!

Could you just dye the rest of your hair to match your roots? At least your head would be consistent then.

Well...I don't wanna cause a stir by saying the opposite to the above but...I've been dying my hair all throughout my pregnancy! Yup roots and all...only because I was told by MW it was fine! Well i'm 36 weeks now and i'm pretty sure it's all okay. But we shall see if baby comes out green and I was wrong!

I had mine done when i was in my 2nd tri and it was fine. There is no harm in it but i think they say it could come out a different colour but mine was fine.
I asked my hairdresser and she said its perfectly safe, just dont bleech it
xx

I think it's absolutely fine.

The only thing I would say is due to a change in hormones the colour may not take to your hair the way it should, but I think it would be fine. x

I heard that it was fine to dye your hair, just not bleach it? That's just what is on my list of "okay" things to do.

If anything, only a small amount would actually absorb into your blood stream..there is literally no proof saying it harms, so it's really your call. If you are particularly anal about staying away from anything that could pose the tinest threat, dont. But if you have a more moderate view go ahead. Personally, I would because i'm one of those weird people that believe that kids were a lot healthier when women werent advised to avoid the majority of everything.

Ok well my mom just asked my doctor and she said that I am fine because I am in my second trimester but to tell my hairdresser ahead of time because they have safer things to use and know what to do. So I am going with that it is ok.

I also just looked at some papers the doctor gave me at my first appointment and it says that there are no adverse effects on dying or bleaching your hair, but they suggest waiting until the second trimester.

Thanks for everyones take on things.

Personally wont dye my hair at all, but that's just me I'm iffy about everything I do.

It's perfectly fine to get it done! I had my hair done all throughout my pregnancy (after the first trimester) since I got the OK from my doc. I would get reassurance from your mw/obgyn.. just in case! But in my personal opinion you'll be fine, so many pregnant women get their hair dyed and are fine! :)

I have dyed and bleached my hair a few times since getting pregnant. I'm fairly sure its an old suspicion. Most people just say "better safe than sorry" but I honestly don't get how it would make any bad effect on baby. It is safer to make sure you use a well ventilated area however! Don't inhale bleach fumes lol

I was told to only use ammonia free dyes and then you will be fine anytime in your pregnancy.

I'm a hairdresser...its perfectly fine to colour your hair during pregnancy..that means roots and all, even bleach! We tend to do a strand test to start off with though, as the hormone changes can actually change the colour it comes out (but then so does using shop bought shampoos) so maybe try and get in to see your hairdresser before your appointment to have this done, it takes no time at all! I would advice strongly against using a home kit however, as they are full of nastiness anyways, and could be even worse for you while pregnant.

Yeah I ended up getting my hair done tonight because everyone said it was ok. Getting my hair done deffintally busted my confidance so I am glad I was able to :)

It came out really good but not exactly as I wanted. I just have to go back in like a week to fix it. I got a reddish brown under my blonde but it didnt come out as red as we planned/wanted. Thankfully it will be a quick fix.

Red can be really hard to get to stick, I never had any lucky with it.

I have had it before and it sticks it is just that my hairdresser mixed the brown and red to make it the color we wanted but she didnt put enough of the red color in it.

i no u already done it but i was jsut gona say i did mine aswell. and i read that the only reason some people say not to is because there hasnt been enough tests. how many women would volunteer to test using hair die in pregnancy? not enough. they just have to write something about everything to save there backs.
