Hi all

I thought we were expecting a girl and we had her name picked out. I was hoping it was a girl as me and hubby don't agree on boys names. However baby is a boy and I've got my head around it and am excited to meet him. Me and DD really like Jake and we're starting to win hubby round. However my parents keep suggesting other names so I'm guessing they're not fans!

I like Jacob but it's far too common for me now and I think Jake sounds like a cooler version. It's just really annoying me that my parents keep suggesting other names when they know I have my heart set on it!

Do you think its a bland version of Jacob? Don't worry about offending me, I'm not easily persuaded would just like to hear people's opinions.

Thanks :)

I love the name Jake also but not a huge fan of Jacob. I'm usually all for "full" names on birth certificates but with this name I do like how Jake sounds as a full name. Or I like the spelling Jakob/Jakeb as an alternative.

Jake is a fine name on it's own. I know a lot of Jakes and none are Jacobs.

I'm a fan of 'proper' names with nicknames so I definitely prefer Jacob with Jake as a nickname. But that's totally personal preference, I know lots of people don't care about using nicknames as full names.

I really like Jacob/Jake but unfortunately I have a terrible ex with that name so it's a no go for me. :haha: I was actually pretty bummed when I realized I couldn't use it!

I'm not a fan of Jacob, but I like Jake. It does sound cooler. Modern, but not trendy.

I could have written this post myself! I love the name Jake but prefer it as a nick name for Jacob. But Jacob it so popular it's really putting me off.

I think Jake stands well on its own, I would just use the name but we already have a few Jakes in the family 😩 and I'm not a huge fan of Jacob now.

I like Jake but not Jacob. I could see people thinking it's short for Jacob, but it doesn't seem like it'd be a huge deal.

The name reminds me of a sweet guy I knew way back in my teens so I definitely wouldn't hesitate to use it myself. :flower:

I like jake and think it works fine as a name in its own right, and it's deffo a cool name :)

I have like every Jake I have ever met. I think it's a lovely name :)

I think Jake can hold its own without Jacob. I definitely prefer Jake and its a good name x

^ couldn't of said it better, I dont think its nickname-y as nicknames tend to end 'ie' or 'y' (like Frankie, Archie, Charlie instead of say Frank which could stand as a full name) so to me Jakey would be the nickname

I like Jacoby too as a long version

I like Jake by itself and know a few of them who according to the birth certificates are just Jake, not Jacob.

I love Jacob but don't really like Jake. Jacob/Jakob was on our list but we didn't like the idea of people calling him Jake. X

I love the name Jake. I've always loved it since I was a little girl and called my ken doll Jake!! Lol

If we had a little boy I think we'd have called him Jake James. JJ. But I have two girls. One of which we are atill thinking of names for!!

I prefer the use of shortened names as their original given names. Having them stand alone always feels incomplete.
