hi
this is off topic but im in band c for a council house im currently in private rented house but because of my disabled daughters medical needs we need to move to the other end of town and i need a council house as im sure u know finding private rent with housing benefit is a nightmare.
anyway in my area yr put in bands a to e bands a and b are urgent but you only stay in them for 8 weeks and have to accept the first property offered if after 8 weeks you dont get anything your then yr moved to band c also in our area on the website it will state which band the house advertised will go to so it will say band c on it and only someone in band c will get it and most of the houses that come up are for band c which is good.
anyway on the website it tells you where you will come if you bid for a certain house on the list this week on the house im bidding for im number 3 !!! last week i came number 5 for a house in a different area 97 people bid in total. ive been on the list a year. the lady at the council said this should mean i wont wait too long.
some of the houses advertised in the next town (really bad area im not bidding for) there would be no-one above me as the website tells you in advance incase you bid where you would be on the list.
just really want to move my daughter cant even go outside in this house theres a concrete yard and if she has a blackout she'll be seriously injured also theres also a stupid pond great idea with a baby !!! theres a whole list of other dangerous features to my current house i put them all on the medical assesment form and thats why we were moved up to band c i was band d.
just a bit down i want to move soon for my daughter so she can go outside currently we go to my mums so she can play on her grass !!
has anyone got to this position on the bidding system and roughly how long did it take to get an offer ?
i just want my daughter to be able to go outside safely come summer

We still cant get off band c, I have spina bifida and find it realy hard to get up and down the staires with LO, pushchair, and bags and syuff because we live on a third floor so pretty much im a prisoner in my own homw and cant take LO out unless I have someone else with me.

Apparently though I cant be put into band b because I refuse to be registured as disabled and claim disability, Im not disabled, I love my job and perfectly capable of working and doing every day stuff I just cant carry him and everything up and dow three flights (a simple trip to the shops means climbing 18 flights of staires because I have to make several trips up and down)
We are also in a one bedroom place so thats difficult (not impossible though) but because they wont move us off band c we come adverage about 220th everytime we bid and have no chance.
This area is notorious for moving in asbos from other area where thier council has kicked them out and its just a pi*s take that they will give a home to money grabing crack heads that smash the place up and run drug and whore houses but wont give a home to us that have payed tax for 15 years (both of us) worked our butts off, have never been in trouble with the police and just generaly want to make a happy family home.
Dont get me started on the neighbor that got given a 4 bedroom house for all her kids then got caught drug dealing and had her kids taken away yet still gets to live in the four bed house on her own.

Sorry I know this doesnt help you and I took over but the bidding system sucks and doesnt work :)

I'm in band b and the system is exactly the same as urs. I don't have a disabled child. I bid on 3 houses and came 3rd from bottom out of 400 people and within the bottom 5 again on 2 other places with over 100 bids on each.

I've been told I'm never going to get a place on the council unless I make myself homeless and go live in a homeless shelter with my baby. I live with my parents so hardly going to make my daughter live in a shite hole for the sake of a council place I still might not get for months.

I can't private rent as I'm a discharged bankrupt so fail credit checks. I have 4 more yrs until it's wiped from my credit file.

The fact u have been coming high in the results then I would say persevere. It doesn't sound like u will have too much longer to wait. Maybe another 4 bid cycles...you can never tell. Houses tend to go to the emergency bands so you might be in the running for the next house then an emergency case might come up and pip u to the post. X

thanks girls im sorry yr both coming so far down the list i didnt realise so many people bid in some areas 400 people ! when i was put in band d i came 38th place but then got moved to band c when i looked at the letting results most of the houses went to people who have been waiting about a year ! it tells you when they joined the band and when they got a property some were only waiting a couple of months !! are there points within the band ? i dont understand in my area it seems quite quick for most people xx

Our housing association works like this (other may be different)
There are bands A B C D E which are mad public when your shown who got a property and then there are points within those bands which are not public.
You get points for how long youv been waiting, how many bedrooms you need and some other things they take into concideration.

So for example family A and Family B both registured at the same time and are both on band C yet family A only has one child and family B has 2 then family B will have more internal points and there for have more priority over family A.
Also you get more internal points if your a home seeker rather then a transfer (yet both may be on band C)
Only about 2 in every 100 homes on our bidding system is for transfers thats why ours takes so long.

We have been told the adverage waiting time is 7 years and they dont have to make us a priority untill LO is 10 years old.
If they didnt keep giving homes to Asbos and crack heads we wouldnt have this problem

sorry bnb team i knew this wasnt in the right section but couldnt figure out where to put it ! thanks for moving it !
smokey - ive just realised yr little man is 1 happy birthday brian !!!! it seems like the whole system is very complicated i didnt realise you could transfer i hope you get some luck with it soon ! i think yr right they must use internal points they just dont tell us !

Where I live there is very few houses to bid on. I think the last time I bid there was 4-6 ii was eligible to bid on, and that's when 400 people were bidding!! A few people I know have waited 3-5 yrs. I've stopped bidding now as there was just no point, even the lady at the council who dealt with my application said I didn't have a chance unless I went into homeless shelter.

I'm looking into private renting now but have credit problems so finding it very hard to find anyone who will rent to me.

Our banding is A - D but within A you have stars/emer against you if you are classed as emergency. Those get the free houses and there's more of them than there are houses so even they have to wait. I do know of a couple of people who got brand new flats for saying they were beaten by their dads etc but weren't really. X

i think our bidding system is slightly different here. We're in band B but thats only as my ohs parents kicked us out as they xouldnt deal with Chloes crying, charming eh! We were in a hostel for 6 weeks and tomorrow will be put in a temp 1 bed flat, we get 3 bids every 2 weeks on any 2bed propertys, even in band B we're looking at being in this 1 bed flat for around 6months possibly longer
it sucks working as no one wants to help

6 months is pretty good, Like I say we have been told where stuck in this 1 bed for about 7 years, and then they wont even see us as needing a 2nd bedroom untill he is 10 years old.
Be warned though once you are in that 1 bed flat and no longer desperate ie living in a hostal you will probably get moved back down to c and then classed as homed.

Its people like the girl I went to school with that make me feel sick.
She lived with her bf and daughter in a rented 2 bed place and they decided they didnt want to pay for private renting anymore so she told the council he had kicked her out so they gave her a 1 bed flat, the flat stood empty most of the time because she was actualy still living with him and lieing about it.
She then moved into her dads 4 bed house as a carer knowing that the house was getting demolised soon and when it did they had to provide a replacment 4 bed house, she then shiped her dad off to a care home, moved her bf back in and they ened up with a brand new 4 bed house paid for by the council

Our works differently. We have priorty plus, priority, general plus and general. Were in priority, currently were private renting a 2 bed house, we were going to be homeless so had to take first thing we could find but we need a ground floor flat and weve been trying for around 5 months now but in our area you cant find out were you came in the bidding so we still probably have years left to wait

Its not even being in a 1 bed that bothers me, theres ways around that its the fact that im a prisoner in the flat and cant leave it without someone elses help if I have LO with me.
I have to get my mum all the way other just so that I can take him to the park but then she has to wait her day hanging around to help me back up and I would realy like to take him somewhere just me and him for a change

sorry if ive quoted you wrong trying to do it by mobile is a nightmare lol
the 1bed flat we are being moved into is still temporary accomodation so we are still registered homeless so until we get a 2bed place we will stay on B. Although i said 6months it could be longer more than likely will be as we dont scrounge from the government lol!

Thats terrible about the girl you know, people like that make stuff so much harder for the genuine people that need help.

ETA sorry just read your pp about having spinabifida, thats disgusting they wont put you higher!!

how comes you struggle getting out, if you dont mind me asking. Is it due to not being on the ground floor if so i know how that feels we've never been in a ground floor flat even with ohs parents, ive always had to carry the pushchair down run back up and get chloe then the reverse coming home, its such a pain!
I know theres a drug dealer living in a wbed ground floor flat that lives on his own, how does that work?? Not to mention the fact he beaten up the girlfriend in the stairwell before and yet he gets to keep that flat its a joke imo!

Yeah thats what my friend got told about staying a priority on band b, she has 4 kids and one has severe autism and she is still stiuck in the "temp" 1 bed place 3 years later because they stuck her back to band c saying that she wasnt a priority anymore because at least she now has a roof over her head.

We have been waiting three years but was originaly a band D then got moved to band C when LO was born but because our circumstances changed our joining date got changed to 6 months after LO was born (apparently it has to start all over again if anything changes) so even if I did registure disabled then our joining date will get changed to whenever thats dealt with so will have to start all over again.
Basicly the last 3 years of waiting have been wiped out

hmmm well i'll be having rows down there if they do that lol!

They did the same with our date when we changed it sucks, it just annoys me that they help so many scummy people but those of us that work etc get no help its so frustrating

hope you get something happen sooner rather than later

Can someone help me please..
I was living in London with my mum (council house) on the list Band c waiting for a 2 bedroom. I felt like i was getting no where so i decided to move to Eastbourne and private rent.
I have gathered by this thread you can still bid for a council house whilst private renting?
I always thought i couldn't?
Also now i live in Eastbourne do i need to phone the council and change the area that im bidding in or continue to bid in London?x

Yeah you can but you wont be classed as priority.

I was living with my mum and dad and I got the go ahead to bid in December 2009. I was in band b, band a here is for people with disabilities and most ground floor flats would be available to them then there was band be for people who were classed as homeless which I was in as my mum had given me my 28 day letter. In December I started bidding and I was entitled to a 2 bed and on 26th March I accepted where I am now. It was a dump but I had a new bathroom and kitchen fitted. I moved in in June.
It does take time but with the council thats what you have to expect.

I had already been waiting 10 months and was still coming like 310th place etc! I wasn't getting anywhere at all and i got told to expect a 6 year wait at least! But in 6 years time it would of got worse so by then i would of been waiting around 8 years! But in London there are so,so many people. You get like 2000 people bidding on one property so you can imagine!
Glad you got your place though x

Yeah but you have to remember that on some places you might be 5th and others much further down the line! Its hard to tell though hun. Just stick to private renting, If you live in Eastbourne then you wouldnt be able to bid in London unless you have a family member but thats how it is for my area maybe phone them.

I will give them a call sometimes next week:) all my family are in London so i will see what they say..
Yeah i know what you mean, sometimes i was higher up than others but on average i was in the high hundreds :/
Private renting seems to be going fine for the minute though :)x
