OT - Is it rude...

I wish people would take their shoes off in my house but I'm not bold enough to ask them to do so.

It really annoys me and I find it quite disrepectful at times!

I always take my shoes off when I go to other peoples houses and I tell people to when then come mine, just polite I think
x

People always take their shoes off in my house without me asking. I don't think it's rude to ask though

I don't think it's rude to ask! Especially if you have light coloured carpets. My sister has OCD about her cream carpets and has a shoe rack at the door with some slippers people can wear if they want

wow this threads really opened my eyes!!!

i would honestly find it weird if someone came into mine and left their shoes by the front door!!! I've never asked anyone, never been asked and never seen anyone do it unless of course their shoes are muddy or really wet:shrug:

saying that if i was asked i wouldn't necessarily find it rude but what if i've got smelly feet or holey socks???:haha:

Just remember if your going visiting to wear matching socks with no holes!! ;)

We have a strict no shoe policy in our house because of Tegan and germs. We have LOADs of visitors (mostly health care professionals - health visitor, doctor sometimes, occupational therapist, educational psychologist etc) and they ALL ask on the way in "Shall I remove my shoes?" Most of them know after the first visit and just take them straight off.

i just automatically take my shoes off!! i think its rude NOT to! x

Not rude at all. I never wear shoes in my house and always take mine off at the door when visiting my friends and they do the same at my place. I don't recall taking them off when I was home as a child though, so I have no idea where I picked up the habit.
I was probably visiting at someone's house where they asked me to take mine off and I liked the idea and decided to adopt it.

the thing that annoys me though is that if I was at my dads and didnt take my shoes off my stepmum would start and I mean start! but shes always kept her shoes on at ours even when we had carpet :growlmad:

Me too I never realised it was a big deal! I have wood floors though so maybe thats why...def going to make sure I have matching socks on from now on!

I am the type to ruin everything nice hahah .. so i had all my carpets ripped up ! and replaced with wood flooring ... i say wood i mean laminate that looks like wood hahaha ! :p

but i find it REALLY odd when people keep there shoes on, especially in there own house, i always wonder are they going out?! ahha like you wouldn't wear your coat so why you're shoes ? ... and yeah shoes ALWAYS off at the door even tho i had my carpets ripped up! i find the idea of dragging bits from the street through your home revolting ! my mum was quite OCD about it when i was little, but now i get it ! lol x

i have never even heard of that over here, but we mostly have good weather and i have never seen anyones house have carpet all over.
i guess if i was living over there i would do the same.

I don't think it's rude at all and I always take my shoes off at other peoples houses, without them having to ask me. At my house, I always tell people they can leave theirs on if they want though.

I don't think its rude at all. I always have guests remove their shoes, just wish my OH would clean the dogs feet when they came in lol

I would never expect someone to take their shoes off. What if they were wearing heels and then they have to walk around in their bare feet  I don't wear shoes at home but most people here find that weird. Maybe where I live, out in the countryside, people would think it's mental to buy cream carpets :haha:

at John's, I always take them off in the kitchen (first room you walk in to) and at home, I leave them on but If i'm going to someone's house, then i'll take them off once I'm through the door. Think it's just polite tbh,.

See we dont allow shoes in the house but when people come round I feel too rude to ask them to take their shoes off  But we're hopefully getting new carpets so if and when we do I will just have to pluck up the courage to ask people haha

Im the worst one for walking into my house and keeping my shoes on, but when i go to other peoples, im forever taking my little slipper socks in my bag as i wont keep my shoes on

no hun, when you have children you should expect people to take there shoes off.
i went to a 1 yo birthday party last week and the carpets were filthy so i kept my shoes on and clung to my LO lol.
