OT - Usama Bin Laden is DEAD!

im watching the news on sky and they showed on satelite pics where his house was. they say the usa were watching this mansion since last year as it seemed strange on such a house with an 18foot high wall with no phone lines just appeared only 100yards from the local military base!!! <<< this is what makes me angry, that the local military did nothing and didnt think it was strange. they never asked questions etc.

im glad hes gone but scared too of the revenge that will ensue and im not sure if its justice to those who lost loved ones on 9/11 and also in the war.

I have a bad feeling about this and will not feel happy about any of this until our troops are home.

If it's true it's a good thing I guess, but it doesn't change the fact that untold numbers of people died in Afghanistan over the last ten years. Well done US government for bombing a country to ruins for ten years and finally 'finding' him in the country next door.

(I don't mean to offend anyone who's OHs are serving out there, I don't doubt that the soldiers, American, British etc. have good intentions, it's the government's lack of regard for life, both military and civilian that angers me)

I don't think anyone is saying the terrorism will stop......but it may bring peace to some who have lost loved ones thanks to the things he organised that he is dead

I think its a photoshop, look at the eye it doesn't seem real plus it isnt on an official news website!

TBH I think he has been dead for years; I'm not a conspiracy theorist but no new videos came out for a long time and the most recent ones he looked quite a bit different. He wasn't mentioned by any of the other Al Qaeda leaders anytime recently either; so if he was still alive; he certainly wasn't in charge. If Obama is the president to 'kill' Bin Laden that would be very good for his poll rating. These people are poison there is always someone to take their place; also they are khawarij/kharijite; so essentially anarchists; they don't have leaders in the traditional sense. Osama's son who was married to the lady from Cheshire said his dad was in Iran, not Pakistan so that is something to think about also.

ETA: they are saying on UK newspaper sites that they are still awaiting the results of the DNA test; but they 'know' its him from facial recognition software. Personally I think he has been dead since at least 2007 (even some US sources believe he was dead since 2002); and it was reported in several Arab newspapers in the past that he was dead and had a funeral.

I live in the same town as her, never seen her or Bin Laden's son though! It is all a bit suspect though the whole scenario!!

I was watching Al-Jazeera earlier and they had a broadcast from Obama to say that he had set up the whole raid...

....Aswell as Bin-Laden himself, they also killed one of his sons!

Ive head the theories that hes been dead for a few years etc and i dont believe it. If that was true Tony Blair or Gordon Brown and even Bush would of used that to their advantage to stay in power by boosting THEIR polls. Especially for the UK because the majority of the population were against the war int he first place and were so angry with the prime minister for going against the public wishes.

the photo going around is just some photoshopped piece of work...it doesnt even look half decent so its easy to spot its fake.

I believe they probably will release a photo of his body eventually because people of course have and will continue to ask to see it because they wont believe hes dead otherwise.

and no terrorisim wont stop now hes dead, if anything the next few months are probably going to be horrific. but in the long run i think things will improve just because he was a guy that was looked up to greatly his followers and once the majority of them die (which they likely will do on suicide missions) things may ease out a bit.

but we dont know the future., all we can do is hope.

Because he was the convenient bogeyman of the past decade, if OBL was confirmed dead years ago the whole reason for going into Afghanistan to begin with would no longer be relevant, now the politics of the whole region has shifted and there are new enemies and groups, the spectre of OBL is now surplus to requirements. What is really fishy (no pun intended) is this whole they threw his body into the sea thing and now the media is saying they didn't.

I'm going to tread lightly, but I find it fascinating that people are cheering about the murder of one man. He is a symbol of what happened in the States, yes, he may have had a part in it, or was the one who initiated it, but in the past ten years, terrorism in North America and the "war on terrorism" has turned into something else entirely. So, yes, in a symbolic way, it is "good" this man was killed, but will it change anything? No, certainly not. Look at Vietnam, look at Korea, wars begun for one reason and continued for entirely a different.

I was honestly shocked at the reaction I saw on tv from the americans. Cheering, singing, happiness. I just don't get it. How do I explain the murder of one man is something to celebrate? I, personally, don't believe in "an eye for an eye" method of being.

Be careful about generalizing. Not all Americans are acting like that. It's just a few being shown on the news.
