I think a really overlooked aspect is making sure your latch is as good as can possibly be.
I know we go on and on and on about it... but a shallow latch can really reduce milk transfer.
Also avoid using a bottle to give top ups. There is a real danger that baby will develop flow preference which will result in a drop in milk supply for mum. (Explanation: Milk comes from the breast in seperate let downs, normally 3-4 let downs per feed. A baby used to fast flow will tend to come off the breast when the milk flow slows between let downs. If the baby does not suckle to the third and fourth let down, the mum's breasts are never completely emptied so she gets the signal to make less milk)
Instead, if supplements are needed, an at-breast supplementer - SNS or Lact Aid (the better one is normally a Lact-Aid) will actually increase milk supply by increasing nipple stimulation.
Hope I don't get blasted for saying this, but you know the old wives' tale about having a beer to get your milk to let down? Well, they used to serve Guinness in hospitals for a reason! It has a really dramatic effect on me. I think it's all the hops and malt and everything else, but if I have a Guinness, I'm gushing very shortly after.
Guinness is quite low alcohol (4.5%), so you don't have long to wait before popping baby back on the boob.
Some people prefer not to drink at all during BFing, so your call, but it worked for me.![]()
I started drinking Mothers Milk tea and its worked wonderfully!

Is that the one by Traditional Medicinals?
I loved that one!
They don't sell that particular one in Canada, so I always load up on it when I visit the US.
