Ouch!

My little boy is a greedy guts and I am breastfeeding constantly! Or so it seems! He doesn't seem to be in much of a pattern yet which I am not too worried about! He does go for some long spells (~4/5 hours) some nights but during the day it seems whenever he wakes he wants a feed!!!
Today when I went to get him weighed he had only put on an ounce in a week! Which after constant feeding made me worry a bit! Health visitor wasn't concerned at all, as he had put 10ozs on week before!
Anyway... I am in absolute agony with sore nipples!!! Not like at the beginning when they were a bit scabby and sore, but the whole of my nipple stings! When he latches on it is fine, but if he gets a bit lazy towards the end of the feed it is AGONY!!! Or during the night if I have fed him lots during the day, just hurts so much!!!
Any tips or ideas! I am constantly using Lanisoh ( wrong spelling!?!?)
I am loving breastfeeding and know I just need to get through the pain, but it is making me a bit miserable!!!

Let the nipple air dry when he is done feeding. You can also express some milk, rub that around the nipple and let it dry.

the first 6 weeks are the hardest an dyou are half way there love. Hang in there you are doing a great job mama!!!

Have you tried a dummy/soother? I had this problem with Oliver and discovered that he just wants comfort some of the time. It takes a while for them to take them, but really helps when they do.
You'll soon learn if he really doesn't want the dummy and just wants food!!!

Hey hun, i'm in exactly the same situation, Alfie justs wants to feed constantly and my nipples really hurt. I got in touch with my local le leche league and someone came out to see me this morning to help with his latch. She was really good and gave me loads of info. She said i will still have a few off feeds but it just takes time for Alfie and me to learn how he latchs and it won't always be this hard, Alfie is 2 weeks today so i'm just keeping in mind that i'm a 3rd way thru the 6 weeks and trying to think positive altho its so hard when its 5 in the morning and i've been feeding him all night and my nipples are red raw!!!!!! It'll all be worth it in the end

Hey hun,
Bless you!! I know exactly what u mean, sometimes my nipple will be really stining and ill look down and Harry will have come off and yet its still agony like hes gnawing on it!!
Even putting my bra on hurts if it catches my nipples.
I have got the health visitor coming out tomo and im going to ask her about it as my mum said to me today that it might be thrush???

Also, when you bathe, don't wash your nipples. Keep the soap off them. The only time I have had a problem with cracking is when I started soaping them up. It just dries them out even more. Just rinse with water.
