Hello, I just turned 39 and am on month 6 of TTC. I just had an ultrasound where it was discovered that I had an ovarian cyst that had recently ruptured. I am concerned about how this will affect my fertility, I am already at a disadvantage due to my age, and also is this the reason I have not become pregnant already? I have two children already, ages 20 and 14.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I had an ultrasound the day after I ovulated & my ovaries were fine, I got my bfp that sane month, had a scan at 5 weeks and a cyst was found on my ovary, not the 1 I ovulated from!! Don't know exactly when it appeared but it hasnt caused any probs with the pregnancy & it's still there now!! As I understand it, even if you have 1 before ovulation in won't cause any problems & they are very common.

I have had many cysts and they haven't caused a problem with conception.

With my first son, it ruptured during the first trimester.

I had another one when I got pregnant with my second son and it got enormous and never ruptured. I eventually had to have the entire ovary removed after he was born. But, it never negatively affected fertility.

I had one that showed up on an ultrasound when I was pregnant with my son. The doc was not concerned and told me not to worry about it and it would go away on its own, guess what, it did.

I think it depends on the type of cyst. When the egg ruptures it creates a corpus luteum (sp?) cyst that produces progesterone. That is normal and sometimes they cause discomfort. A chocolate or endometrium cyst can affect fertility. There are probably other kinds I do not know about - why not ask your doctor if she thinks that cyst is or was problematic.

My doc just found a cyst on each ovary too. I am also concerned about them and how they will affect my fertility. I thought that may be why I'm not getting pregnant by now since we've been trying for 6 months too and I'm 38. I have to note I took 50mg of clomid for one cycle and 100mg the last cycle and was told that can cause them so I stopped. This cycle I'm going it without the fertility meds. We're going to remove the cysts since I have a history of them anyway. Then it's on to a fertility specialist. I really wonder if they are causing me not to get pregnant. We will see after the surgery. It's really true. Everyone's body is so very different.

When I had my first pregnancy scan they found a massive cyst (11 cm!!!) so it didn't in my case at least effect my fertility (took us 6 months). Over the pregnancy it shrank little but is still very much with me!! It caused no problems during birth either. It is a endometrioma...I'm supposed to have an op to get it removed (think it's 6 cm now) but I would rather ttc 2 first.

Hope this helps xxx

I think it does matter what kind of cyst. I had "chocolate cysts" that they removed from my ovaries before my one and only pregnancy. They are a type of endometriosis. I do think these cause infertility because it causes an immune response and all of the immune cells go into over drive and may kill sperm cells that are up there.

BTW transvaginal ultrasounds did not identify these cysts only a lap. did.

i also have a cysts the hosp said i would never have kids and fell pregnant straight away 14 years ago and had another 3 kids since then am now overwaight and trying for baby no 5 ?

I have also had overian cysts, and endromediosis - was told I had a 15% chance of falling pregnant, after 4 miscarriages, how ever many IVF's and 10 years of trying, we finally fell pregnant on our own, in March 2005 we now have a healthy 6 DS, I too had a cysts on my one overy while pregnant in the early stages, but it went away so now here I am 6 years later and 45yrs young wanting to ttc for a DS of DD.
