Ovarian reserve

Has anyone had a blood test to check for this? My fertility nurse was talking about this today..an AMH blood test or something like that, that u can have done which tells u what eggs you've got left or how viable they are.

I've had this done. We had to have it done because our PCT needs it to be a certain level before you can get funding for IVF. But I know other girls have been through IVF on the NHS without ever having it done.

just reading Zita West guide to ferility and assisted conception and it says that it is one of the three tests to assess egg reserve (others being fsh and antra follicular count), but probably the most reliable one. It's main use is to give the fs an idea of how well you are likely to respond to stimulation drug.

A low number is likely to indicate that your reserve is low and that you need stronger drugs, however, although it makes it harder, it doesn't mean you can't get pregnant naturally.

I had my reserve checked with the clomid challenge test. They draw blood on CD2 and again on CD10. You take clomid CD5-9, and then they look at FSH and estrogen levels. I needed to have this for my doctor to prescribe clomid and refer to IUI. The test isn't perfectly conclusive, but it's a non-invasive way to test your eggs.

Thanks ladies i wasnt sure what it did. Im gonna have this test done i think cos it makes sense to know what the state of play is with my eggs. It costs £40 apparently. Not sure at the mo what we are gonna do following all this becos any treatment i do have we are gonna have to pay for
