Hi ladies, I am sure that this has been posted before. Although I know be overweight is not recommended when trying to get pregnant, its hard to always hear u can't have a baby till you lose weight. I have low progesterone levels and was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat. Any success stories from people who are overweight and had a normal pregnancy? Any recommendations as to what I can take?

hey sweety, your progesterone can actually become lower when you are overweight. Sometimes even losing a couple of kilos can make a difference! I've lost 6 kilos and my progesterone levels have balanced themselves out, whereas before I was getting injections and applying cream to keep my progesterone levels in place.

Goodluck! :) oh - vitex agnus cactus will naturally correct your progesterone over 6 months - it's a herb, try it! I recommend it.

Hello, just wanted to say I am overweight and pregnant. It took me 3 months to get pregnant and ive had no problems. Baby is a bit small, but thats nothing to do with my weight, just one of those things.
Dont be put off trying or worried about anything, everyone has risks what ever their size.
There is a great thread that i will post for you and all the woman on there are either pregnant, had babies or ttc whilst overweight.

Thanks for posting ladies, I have been told that I should try vitex and progesterone cream. Been ttc for almost 2 years now so willing to try anything. Claire congrats on ur bean. Hoping to have one of my own very soon. Just so much negative stuff our there about being overweight and pregnant.

Sorry i dont know much about progesterone. Everyone takes different lengths of time when ttc. I know there is lots of negativety againts overweight woman ttc, but what are the reasons they give? If we you are ovulating and the mens bits are ok I cant see why we are any different to anyone else??

That's what I thought as well. I am overweight, but been checked. No PCOS or anything. So I guess once my hormones are balanced I will be able to get prego.

Angelluvbilly, im in the same poisition as you. im overweight and trying to TTC. All the doctors say i need to lose weight and i am in the process of doing that now. Way i look at it though is its gunna take time to get to 'healthy' BMI. But saying that. I know soo many people who are overweight and have got pregnant accidently or within the first month of trying who are much bigger than me - im by no stretch of the imagination thin! lol. I look at it that if everything is working as it should then the weight shouldnt matter! Good luck!

My ob/gyn has mentioned to me that she would like to see my weight down, obviously (I would too, obviously lol!!) but has also said that it wouldnt be an issue if I got pregnant at my current weight...i guess it just depends on the dr and your overall health

Here's hoping for that BFP soon!
:dust:

As someone who is overweight herself, I would NEVER say that weight doesn't matter. Of course it does. Once you get into the whole TTC business, it's no longer just your life that's involved, but your (future) baby's as well. There are several things that can go wrong with pregnancy and there are several things that can happen to the baby.

This doesn't mean that overweight or obese people should not have babies, it just means that they need to be responsible for their decisions and make sure they're doing their best to prevent any and all things that can be prevented. This includes taking things OUT from under-the-carpet area and admitting to themselves that they really are overweight and/or obese and that it is likely their fault that they are there. It's not something that needs to be shrugged off and it's not something that will resolve itself on its own.

Sometimes, this includes help from a good doctor, too, and a good doctor is usually one of those who DO mention weight and weight-related problems, even though they often sound harsh. Contrary to the popular belief, I would never replace a doctor who is honest and concerned with one who would pat me on the back and offer me an extra cookie to save the day and relieve my troubles.

But then, that's me. I am fully aware that I usually go against the flow (especially on this forum) when it comes to weight and TTC. I still like to share my opinion.

Yup, we're trying to have a baby too and the fact we still don't have one (6 months later, that is) is not in any way related to my weight. We're dealing with, more than likely, idiopatic infertility.

At the same time, I am healthy and steadily losing weight. For years. It can be done, it just doesn't include a magic pill and a pile of food.

Good luck!

I am short and overweight. It's no fun but my doctor has not tried to stop me from ttc. He said that he would prefer I tried losing weight before conceiving which I am. I hope to lose at least a few more lbs but if I get pg before that so be it. I'm going to have to lose the baby weight anyway when it's all over. Overweight women have the same chances of having pregnancy problems that thin women do. Just be careful of any pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or pre diabetes, or high blood pressure. I know women who are much bigger than me who have had healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Good luck to you!

Overweight and obese women have a lot higher chances/risks, without doubt.

Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, eclampsia, C-section. And these are just a few of them.

There are countless references available online, all from respecful sources.

Ok, I am saying that these things don't just happen to obese women. They can happen to thin people too. They way I look at chance is always 50/50. That is my opinion. I also think that if you want to have a baby it is your decision and ask your doctor ob/gyn what they think. That is the information you need to draw your decision. I know the risks because I have consulted my doctor. I try not to research online, the information isn't always correct (especially not for an individual because circumstances will always be different, that's why your doctor is the best choice) and I personally scare myself when I research online. I am trying to lose weight but I feel as though it isn't dire for me to have a baby. If I were 20 lbs heavier, perhaps. I wasn't trying to say you are incorrect. Just putting my 2 cents in.

Slimmer woman also have the exact same risks.

Of course it's a personal decision and of course no doctor can prevent anyone from having babies. But it's a really good thing when it's an educated decision, just like anything else in life. Of course, those educated decisions are not some free pass to a world of no failures, just like the poor decisions or things that just happen on a whim or by mistake are not by default meant to go downhill.

Slimmer women, or just those of normal weight DO have chances to get preeclampsia, gestational diabetes or just about any other pregnancy-related problem, but the rates are, despite any and all random beliefs, still a lot lower. Things are readily available online, from trusted sources (not random forums and ilovebabies-like websites) and, of course, any and all serious ob/gyn/midwife/other healthcare professional should provide that information as well.

Again, I appologize if you thought in some way I was coming after you with my post. I was replying to the topic itself posed by the OP not directly to your post. I like to think that the information the doctor gives me will help me make an educated decision and a healthcare professional with all of my past information is probably better educated about me and my situation then a website without any prior knowledge of my existance let alone my health. tI didn't mean to offend you or anyone else with my opinion.

You didn't, offend me at all! I'm sorry if my post came through as offensive, too.

I understand and realize it would be healthier and better for me and my baby with ttc. But I also know that I have been overweight my whole life and it is a major struggle to lose. But as far as medical problems I don't have any. I just don't feel that that should be the biggest decision in ttc. I have met and know many pregnant women that are overweight and have normal pregnancies. It's rather heartbreaking to here that you shoudln't have a child cuz you're overweight. I am starting weightwatchers and have completely cut our coke. That in itself is a really big step for me.

Have you got a target or anything? I think that maybe us focussing on losing weight and not putting pressure on TTC may make our :bfp: come quicker! :hugs:

Def agree with bumphopes, it will take your mind off ttc and give you something else to focus on...much needed for some people as ttc can start to run your life.
Good luck with WW and SW. Ive always done SW, Love it cause you can eat carbs :)
