Packaged sandwich ham,turkey etc

I would'nt bother eating the sandwhiches.. The meat is touching the bread and everything else in it. So unless you heat up the entire sandwhich untill its steamed oh well. How yuck would that be..... I never said heat up the sandwhich I said heat up deli meats. Just stay away from the sandwhiches. If you want to make you're own cold deli meat sandwhich then wait till the meat cools down.

I work on a deli counter so i know how the dates work with opened stuff

Im not saying who right or wrong just saying what my doc said.Im also doing a degree in food saftey so i learn all that stuff also. She printed two pages of the net and gave them to me. She also gave me the same ones in my last pregnacy a few months back so it must be standard prosedure with that surgery.

I think anyhow if u listened to everything ur told we would all go mad

I am confused - are we not supposed to eat normal packaged ham? like the bernard matthews stuff? i always thought it was just stuff like parma ham and the uncooked deli meats we werent supposed to have?

Canada just had a huge listeria outbreak (I remember seeing it in the news when I was over there) so that's why they're extra cautious.
I also heard you shouldn't eat packaged ham, I was told that when I was pregnant last year. I dunno, I've probably eaten some things I shouldn't. Last week I bought packaged roast chicken breast and ate it in a sandwich, but I got a really badly upset tummy afterwards so won't be doing that again.

Apparently listeria grows really quickly on ham in particular. You're not meant to have parma ham because it's uncooked... but my Italian family laughed about that.

I think everyone is getting various advice on this.
Me personally im avoiding meats from the deli counter but still buying packaged ham.

I found this:

Lindsay L. Whitcomb
certified information and referral specialist
It's not safe for pregnant women to eat deli meats (such as ham, turkey, salami, and bologna) or hot dogs unless the food has been thoroughly heated and is steaming hot. These foods can cause a form of food poisoning called listeriosis.

So I guess no ham sandwiches. :(

In the U.K eating deli meats is fine!!!!! I've just taken this quote from the NHS website with eating guidelines for pregnant women.

"Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk that the food may contain listeria bacteria. In the UK, pregnant women are not advised to avoid these foods because the risk of infection is so low. However, if you’re concerned, you may choose to avoid them."

Idk, of course I want to do what's best for my baby, but I feel like some of this stuff gets a bit rediculous. I was just told no undercooked meats ( darn there goes my medium rare steaks :( ) , no raw seafood, only one serving per week of cooked fish and seafood except no swardfish and no artificial sweetners. Of course it's personal choice, but I'm not gonna drive myself crazy. If I want subway, I'm gonna get it.

In the UK packaged meats are fine due to low risk. Also learn mayonnaise is FINE as long as it's made from pasteurised eggs and not homemade with raw eggs.

Im in the UK and have never know anyone get listeria from a ham sandwhich so Im not going to start avoiding it now!! Cured meats, yes as they are still essentailly raw but if I really fancied it then I would have a small amount. mmmmm chorizo ......

ham sandwiches are the only thing i can stomach just now. i just make sure i eat it on the day its opened and if its open longer i throw it out, other than that i eat it daily! lol
