Hello ladies,

I was hoping to find more of you that have partners with none or low sperm.
I'm 30 and my OH is 29 and we've been trying for just over 2 years now. I'm still to have lap and dye and ultrasound but so far everything looks normal. However, my OH SA was not great first time around. 3 mill per ml but with average motility. He was then referred for an ultrasound and they found a varicocele in his testi's. We are now waiting for proper results and where to go from here...not sure if they do surgery as we were also told varicocele's are harmless...(but linked to infertility).
It all came as a bit of a shock as he's managed to conceive with previous partners....

I hope it could be a way to increase sperm counts as I'm terrified of the IVF route....which we were told before the found the varicocele's that was our only option. Anyone know much about varicoceles?
Does anyone know what the sperm count is meant to be to qualify for IUI? (that seems less scary).

Any experiences, thoughts, sharing, success stories appreciated.

Its a thread in the assisted conception referring to this. HTH. :dust:

Hi Nordiclass

OH and I are in similar postion - ttc for almost 2 years now. Im 24 OH is 29 and so far we have male factor infertility - OH's swimmers are doing half of what they should be on every count. I have had ultrasound and nothing found but no lap and dye (was initially told it would be pointless putting me through it as OH's results meant IVF was the only way forward anyway).

At our last appt with FS (after almost 2 years) OH was actually physically examined and a suspected varicocele was found. Unfortunately after OH having ultrasound we were told the vein wasnt a varicocele. From what i have read they are linked to infertility/could be a contributory factor at least - If we were given the opportunity to operate we would definately go for it - anything is worth a try.

I think the count for IUI is appx 5mil - not 100% sure though. we are curently awaiting OHs 4th SA - you should have at least 2 SAs done at the hospital before IVF is confirmed and you can get a better idea on the results. Make sure your OH is taking vitamins these can really change the count x

Good Luck x

Thanks Melbram!
It's good to know there are others out there in the same frustrating position!
Have you guys gone on the IVF waiting list yet? Are you on the NHS or private?

I think you're right about the surgery...if we get the option, will deffo do it I think. And hey, makes him having to suffer instead of myself! It's very odd tho that he has gotten people pregnant in the past whereas I haven't ever fallen pregnant with previous bf's (even when not careful) and he is the one with issues and not me...!

OH is on Vitamin E, C, Selenium, Zink and Vit D. Haven't tried Macca root yet tho but have heard its meant to be good! Have you tried this? Did you see any improvement from the first SA up till the 4th?

x

Havent officially been put on the list as such yet becuase the FS wanted OH to do another SA and have his vein checked out first. The first two SA's were done at the local hospital so when we were referred to FS im at Liverpool Womens Hospital they wanted to do their own SAs because they use better equipment etc. We were never really told the exact figures from the first two - the third everything was about half it should be count was appx 12mil. This time i am going to write everyting down or ask for a copy!!!

OH is taking Vit C, E and Zinc as advised by FS but has recently began taking feritlity plus. I have also started taking fertility plus (worth a try)

We are due back on the 21st Feb and this will be the only SA done with the effect of vitamins so it will be interesting to see how they have worked.

When do you have your next appointment?

m hubby was recently diagnosed with low sperm to hubby is 24 i am 21 (been trying for almost 2 1/2 years . there are wonderful support threads and alot of advice. i have hubby on vitamin C E, zinc and folic acid along with a great multivitamin. we were told the only way we would have kids was to have a "test tube baby" but after doing alot of research and the help from women in this blog we are going to try with the vitamins and then get another SA done :)

this is alittble bit of the information i have on 3 of the four vitamins :
Vitamin E—Take 400 IUs 2 times daily. Is an antioxidant and improves sperms' ability to impregnate.
Zinc—Take 30 mg 2 times daily. Required for a healthy male reproductive system and sperm production.
Folic Acid 400mg
got to take zinc and folic acid together for it to raise sperm count very quickly but you need to take both together.

hope this helps :)

Thanks Shadow! He is already on them vits so will see if it made any improvement after his second SA. Fingers crossed!

Melbram,

Well, he has his next SA on 28th of feb (loooong wait!), I'm still waiting for my appointment for an ultrasound. I was told there would be a 6 week wait. So it's indeed a waiting game. Fed up waiting! Then we are also waiting for our next appointment with FS but was told in December in would be in roughly 3 months. Joys...if only we had the money to go private...

I feel your pain Nordiclass its always at the forefront of my mind and everyone around me seems to be falling pregnant! Things would be easier to deal with if there wasnt as much waiting round and thinking time...but hey ho once the little baban is here all this stress will be melted away
