pcos and weight loss options

Hi Hun, well done on the weightloss thats is wonderful.

Ive done ww before and i think a lot of people do find that the weighloss does even off and you can find yourself in a bit of a plateau. You need to change it up a bit as your body has gotten use to what you are eating. Maybe try switching fruits and veg and trying some new meats or fish??

When i got to that point last time it was suggested to me that i start drinking fruit teas, peppermint teas and especially hot water and lemon as it helps aid digestion and your metabolism.

Hope that helps.

Sarah

I hav PCOS and i find WW is the only thing that works 4 me.
I have 2 be very precise with points though or i dont lose anything and if i relax 4 a few days and dont keep track i gain really quickly.
good luck with everything x

Hi ladies,
I have PCOS. I do ovulate (since I lost a bit of weight) but I seem to be miscarrying, which I've heard is a problem with PCOS so I really need to keep those insulin surges under control.

I'm about to try low GI in combination with ww. To be honest, when I'm on ww, I often think that my diet is really bad as far as PCOS is concerned cos I eat jacket potatoes, weight watchers chocolate bars, etc. All within points but all high GI.

HoneyWright: At least ya have a couple of days to be super good ;) I've also heard to the hot drinks to beat the plateau

Kit: I know what you mean about food aversions, I'm awful! Perhaps switch what you _do_ like to wholemeal/higher fibre versions, try and reduce the ammount of processed and sugary foods? If you keep it with a decent calorie range, you lose weight :)

pinkycat: wow! you have done fantastically well! how long has it taken? I always gain really quick if I'm not strict as well!

Lol: I think alot of diets contradict each other, its hard to know what to follow!

Lol thanks hun :) I don't eat very many sugary junk foods to be honest... it's mainly the processed fatty type foods that are the problem :( I've been staying within like 1500 - 2000 calories which is what my dietician recommended though.

for the time being I'm going low cal, replacing carbs wth low GI where possible, and trying to cut out chocolate paul mckenna style :)

Hiya all!

I too have PCOS and I'm currently on Weight Watchers and I find that this too works for me. I have lost 41.5 lbs so far but still have a bit to go to get to goal! I know I won't get there very quick as I seem to lose a few lbs then maintain then lose again! My current goal is to lose another 2 stone so that I am eligible for IVF as the FS has informed me that this is the best option as Clomid wasn't working for me (but last month it did but unfortunatly got a :bfn: ) So hopefully everything works out!

Good luck to you all!!! xx

wow missus L that is fantatstic, well done and hope you reach your goal and that BFP!! Do you find the weightloss has had an impact on your cycles?

Thanks HoneyWright! My cycles have become shorter. I think it is both the weightloss and the clomid that is helping. I do feel great for it though! How long have you been on WW for? Do you go to the meetings or do it online? How you finding it? xx

I only started end of Nov and I go to the meetings. Im finding it OK, was doing really well before christmas then finding it harder to get back into. Hope to get down to my first stone next Tuesday!!

I did speak to my GP about possibly receiving orlistat about 18 months ago but she didn't prescribe it to me because, at the time, I was below the required BMI of 30. She also said that i'd be better off losing the weight through a calorie controlled diet and exercise and that a GP should only prescribe orlistat if they can see evidence that you've been maintaining a calorie contolled diet and exercise anyway. She also put me off after she told me about the side effects :nope:

I actually looked into the 'alli' tablets that are available in pharmacies like boots and lloyds a few months ago until I realised that orlistat is one of the biggest ingredients in them. One of the things it states on the advertisements is that lb you lose by yourself, it can help you lose an extra lb.... which is beneficial if you're willing to stick to a diet/exercise regime. But, women who treat it as some sort of miracle weightloss pill are v. likely to just put weight on/stay the same.

There's quite a lot of info about weightloss options like surgery, diet pills, diets etc here: https://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Obesity/Pages/Treatment.aspx

hi i did take the same sort of thing some years a go but if you do not eat a lot of fat to start with it will not do much, and if you do eat fat when on it you will really wish u had not lol.
a huge well done to you all on ww i should do ww but think id be even more lilely to cheat ;( so will muddle though good rest of the week to you all :)

orlistat was hell for me, some days I couldn't leave the house at all, and theres no way I could do it now that I work full time. Even on the metformin 2g, I have to take a small dose of codeine to make it bearable.

Hey ladies does met help with weight loss? I just started met yesterday i started off on 1000mg, but working up to 1500mg, any one tell me how they feel on met and how it helps with weight lost in ladies with pcos?
xx

Hi Beauty

When I first started Met it helped with weightloss but that was combined with a low Gi diet. The reason met can help with weightloss is that it helps regulate your blood sugar and this is a reason why people with PCOS may put on weight or be heavier. As we cannot control our blood sugar we are more likely to be hungry and also our body is more likely to store fat.

When I first started Met I did have some symptoms but these passed within the first two weeks so i would suggest you keep at it. I had cramps, wind, and diarhea (SP?) and these got worse if i ate fatty or oily foods.

Good luck!!

I am on a real good diet at the moment but if im honest the weight is coming off but sooooooooooooooo slowly, it since stoppin bc i use to loose weight so easy when i was on bc but since stoppin to ttc it seems to just come off a pound here and there.. i think its taken me about 6 months to loose a stone, and that is being on a real low GI diet..
Just hope the met helps me loose some of the weight!
xxxx
