pcos and weight loss options

I think it will, my Dr described it as 'levels the playing field' so you should find it the same as a 'normal' person to loose weight. If not it might be that low Gi is not the best for you, maybe you need to try something else.

I know huni but its been so hard to shift like i said, its not like its happened in 3 months it has took months and like i said i put it on so easy even having a cookie one night prob put me 1lb heavier the next day.. lol
xx

How many mg of met do you take? He started me on 1500mg a day, but said start off one 1000mg and build up to 1500mg
xx

I started 500mg so 1 tablet with main meal a day for a few days, then up to 2 for a few days then 3, so im up to 1500mg now.

Something to keep in mind is that if you get pregnant, or should I say when! You should wean yourself off in the same way, well consult your Dr on this obviously when you get your BFP.

I hope it will help you shift the last 9lbs, let me know how it goes!!

I just been reading it can make you gain weight? Not sure im happy taking them bit scared now.. i mean to be honest i am taking 1000mg a day at moment second day today, my doc said 1500mg to aim for but i not sure, i dont have many pcos symtons just the internal defo said i had pcos oh and the long cycles from time to time
xx

ive not heard of anyone who gained weight and there are quite a few ladies on here that take it. I would suggest taking 1000mg for a week and keeping your eating habits the same and see what weightloss you see??

Yeah i was gonna take 1000mg for a week and just see, thanks huni wanna get my BMI right for the IVF which we gonna start hopefully this year. thanks
xx

deinatly build it slowly. I'm on 2000mg now, but it can be tough going. I havent found metformin on its own has helped the pcos at all, or made any difference to the weight loss

I started on 500mg for a few days, then increased it to 1000mg and i'm now taking 1500mg a day. I would definitely recommend gradually increasing the dosage because it can be pretty hard going and a lot of people experience stomach cramps when they first start taking it.

I've known a few people put weight on whilst taking Metformin but its not the tablets themselves that cause the weight gain. In all cases its been women who think of the tablets as weightloss pills and go on eating unhealthy foods in large quantities with little to no exercise in the process.

In my experience, the people who seem to do the best whilst taking Metformin are the ones who combine it with a low GI food plan and a bit of exercise.

I don't know how accurate this is but my dietician said that Metformin works by balancing our sugar levels to give us a fair chance to lose weight. Basically, these levels cause us to put the weight on, and stop us from losing it, thus... by balancing them out we're as capable as losing weight as somebody who doesn't have PCOS but we still need to make the effort - food, exercise etc... The tablets themselves don't specifically aid weightloss, although she did say that eating lots of fatty foods whilst on Metformin can cause diarrohea??

I've lost another 1.75 lbs this week, so 5lb down in total, with a regain of 3.2% fertility :)

thanks :) it's coming off very slow, but hopefully that means its more likely to stay off!
anyone else also monitor their fat and water % ?

i just monitor my weight but i also measured myself this week so i can see how that goes as well.

I only started end of Nov and I go to the meetings. Im finding it OK, was doing really well before christmas then finding it harder to get back into. Hope to get down to my first stone next Tuesday!!

You will get back into it hun! Glad you find it ok for you. Good luck with the weigh in on Tuesday!!! xx

Hi everyone, I don't have time right now to read all of these posts, so if I am being redundant please forgive me but I wanted to share very quickly what worked for me. I also have PCOS and gained over 70lbs in less than 2 years and NOTHING I did would budge a single pound (you all know the story). I was introduced to the hcg protocol aka hcg diet by a friend of mine who had done some research on it. To make a long story short, I found a local clinic with a Dr. who administered the program and I stayed on it for 7 weeks..losing 47lbs during those 7 weeks...I had never felt better and didn't have one single side effect..after the program was up..I went back to eating 'normal' and didn't gain back a single pound in almost 5 months now. In fact, I'm getting ready to do the program again to drop the final 30lbs. It was the best thing I've ever done. If you have any questions about the program feel free to ask away!! You can also do a google search for "hcg diet" and there is a TON of info out there. But don't get caught up in the garbage about Kevin Trudeau...the original inventor of the program was a man by the name of Dr. Simeon...back in the 1950's..NOT Kevin Trudeau who tried to get rich off of it recently..
Good luck to everyone!!!

i have a book called "PCOS for Dummies" and it is full of nutrition and weight loss advice. It recommends low GI for PCOS and does say you shouldn't cut out any food groups (eg carbs) but offers "safe" alternatives. Eg eating basmati rice instead of white longrain etc. Give it a try x
