I'm thinking about going back to my doctor (probably a new local one actually) about my absent periods.

I'm not at all happy with the diagnosis of being over weight. I've never been one to exercise but my weight has always remained pretty much the same. In fact 1 year I randomly dropped about 10kg. But without much of a lifestyle change my weight shot up 20kg pretty quickly.

I honestly feel like the weight gain is another symptom of whatever's causing my periods to stop.

So I've been reading about PCOS, it could fit. How should I get my doctor to look into this and not rule it out? My doctor ruled it out last time I went because my periods were regular (every 5ish weeks) before I went on the pill. But I only had periods for just over 2 years before I went on the pill. Can PCOS develop or do you always have it?

I get dull aches a lot (like where you'd usually get period pains). A few years ago my doctor tested me for clamidia, but my period had started before the test so it came back negative regardless. But I decided it would have been negative anyway cause DH and I have never slept with anyone else, how the heck could I have got it anyway.

Anyhoo, so here are symptoms I have that could possibly be related to my absent periods:

no periods (duh :p )
rapid weight gain
acne
really REALLY (to the point i want to go back to old bad habits relating to depression) painful eyes, now poor eyesight some days (finding it really hard to focus, could be made worse by my cold)
I've had unexplained fatigue for years. I mean, I go to bed late, but when I was in 6th form I couldn't physically keep my eyes open, and i know ppl went to bed later than me & i didn't go out clubbing or anything
aches in my abdoman
sugar makes my sleepy (related somehow?)

ok, i think i'm just being my usual insane self and seeing things worse than they are

I've just been so down lately, and my eyes hurting is really getting to me. I went to an optician about it once before, they said they couldn't see anything wrong. Might go again, then to the doctors if they say the same again.

I dunno. I just want to know what's going on:hissy:

You will have to TELL your doctors because they wont diagnose you otherwise. Doctors don't really know anything about it so therefore rarely place a diagnosis without you telling them - just say that a friend thinks you have PCOS because she does and you have similar signs. xx

Or even better print out some information and show your doctor, highlight the symptoms of it that you have.

I pretty much told my doc that is what I had, then he did a scan and saw all the cysts and I told him my symptoms so he diagnosed it. He said he wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't said anything. Good Luck!

demand an ultrasound just to see if there are any follices that could be pcos.
my periods when younger were fairly reg but then i started not getting one at all and after oh and i had been ttc for 13months doc did some test and found i had pcos and some other things. my point is i had no signs of them whats so ever except tummy pains like u have described, im actually been told at on point that i was to skinny never had achne etc so just demand tests.

oh and good luck

Get yourself tested and keep going back to the doctor till you have a diagnosis. I

have been heading back and forth to the doctor for about 13 years and I finally have a chance at a diagnosis. It was only once I put on 2 stone in 2 months that they finally took me seriously that something was wrong, they insisted on checking my thyroid every time I saw them, but after I cried on them they took it further - think it helped that it was a bloke!

Good luck!

Thanks guys, really helpful posts :) I think I'll take DH along with me to boost my confidence, otherwise I'll just sit there and accept whatever they say & demand nothing.

Gotta fill out those chage-of-cotor forms (again, just like when I first went to the doctor about my periods stopping. I should stop moving house so much, lol)
