Hi ladies,

Still trying to lose weight with this damned PCOS!!! Fell off the wagon a bit last month so need to refocus!!!!

Thinking of trying the GI diet. Anyone else done this or what else has worked for you???

Any comments welcome!!! Thank you xx

I am going to try the GI diet asap I have ordered two books about it because I have no idea where to start! They will hopefully be delivered in the next day or two so I can plan how to do it, because I don't really understand what it involves as a lot of the internet research I have done does't really give day by day meal ideas.

I am not trying to lose weight but I am going to really try and stick to it, are you on any meds?

x

Im trying to eat better. Have started by cutting down on bread and pasta, I still have it just not as much. Im also having much better breakfast's. Ive ordered a GI diet book so hope it comes today! good luck with the weight loss

Low GI diet is excellent for PCOS I have always struggled to loose weight and this way is only way that works for me (i lost nearly 2 stone).

You do need carbs but low GI and slow release carbs. Try porridge with skimmed milk for breakfast and if you do need bread for lunch make sure its wholegrain.

A good GI plan is:
Breakfast - porridge and fruit
Lunch - salad or omlette with no cheese with veg and small amount lean protien, fish with vegetables, chicken with veg.
Dinner - 6 oz lean protien with small bowl full of vegetables or salad. Do have some carbs but have a small tennis ball or smaller sized jacket potato (make sure you have skin) or 2 new potatos. Basmati rice is best for low GI and slow release carbs.

No fizzy drinks (unless diet drink and then limit these) and limited alcohol.

Hope this helps xx

thanks ladies, doc said i can have orlistat if i want to try it. What do you think??

I started the GI diet this week as I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and I want to try it without meds for now.
So far so good. It is a pretty easy plan to follow (I got a book https://www.gidiet.com/)
Really it is about making the right choices.

I have lost a pound this week and feel great!

Not tried the GI diet myself but i have read alot about it as i have pcos too. Iit all seems to complicated and its basically the atkins diet your just allowed a few more carbs.
I did the atkins for 1 month and lost nearly 2 stone. Ill be going back on it next week.

Im also on orlistat. Been on it before but had to stop cause i was doing 3 rounds of clomid. Ill be honest its not the nicest thing in the world but they do work. Im also on metformin. ask your gp to check your insulin levels you may be insulin resistant and could then go on metformin which may help. I find it doent help me lose weight it just kees it off once i have lost it with a diet.

Hope this helps and good luck x

Baby Bubbles,

If you don't already you must exercise! Its the only way to lose weight effectively long term it might help with fertility also.

Is there anything you like doing? e.g walking, cycling, dancing, jogging?

or even 10 mins per day of an exercise dvd?? The exercise will decrease your appetite for bad things naturally. I find cutting out food I like does not work so I burn it off instead!

You'll notice a difference in the first week!

Good luck

Cxx

Hi, I also have PCOS.

I get married in 14 days so decided about a month ago that I needed to take serious weightloss action. I have been following a carb free diet for the last month and up to now, I have lost 13lbs. I've nearly hit the one stone mark :D

I started at 10st13lb and am now 10st! I am only 5'2", so was definately classed as overweight before, not so bad now.

Suprisingly, I have found it really easy to stick to and the results have been amazing. I'd definately say give it a go! Good luck.

The GI diet is nothing like atkins. You are allowed to eat carbs with the GI diet. Rice (brown or basmati), Pasta (white or whole wheat) and potatoes are allowed. the only carbs really they say not to have is white bread....they say you should have hole grain bread.

Its really about healthy eating and making some more natural choices and avoiding processed foods. No food groups are restricted

i've recently been diagnosed with PCOS and i fairly overweight .. i changed to low carb diet i cut out rice pasta cereals and breads .. if i do have them i stick to brown or try to but i've been trying this for 6 weeks now and have lost 11lb .. i've also been naughty so cutting out carbs seems to work and making sure you eat plenty of fruit and veg ... if you google low GI foods you should be able to get some sort of idea which foods are ok xx
