has anyone been on metformin, (ONLY) and conceived or TTC right now... also how long did it take you to conceive... and what tips can you share for other women struggling with PCOS...

everyone is welcome to post something/experiences here!!!

I never concieved on metformin. However one of the best things I did was start a low Carb diet (50-80/day) which helped with blood sugar, weightloss and regulating my period. Ultimately it was Clomid that got me pregnant but I feel the diet change was part of it.

Hi, can I join please. I am 34. TTC baby 2. Came off the BCP in May, had a breakthrough and then a natural period after 35 day cycle on 1st July. From then on until 2nd Nov I had nothing. Had constant cramping and dragging pains, especially around where my R ovary is. Dr did bloods, all hormones came back in range. Got sent for an USS which showed cysts to the R ovary with the L one looking fine.

I just got what I think was a period on Sat 2nd Nov. My progesterone reading was only 19. The Dr is now going to try my bloods on day 21 and see what my progesterone reads. He cant refer me to Gynae until I have been TTC for a year. He did say if my progesterone is low again he will try me with clomid. I am not overweight but not sure if I have insulin resistance.

Well long story short I was diagnosed with pcos in early 2008 and since I wasn't ttc my gynae put me on metformin for 6 months and bcp for 3 months to regulate my cycle as I hadn't had a period in over a year. Well on the 2nd month I got sick and was put on antibiotics and BAM! I conceived my daughter.

Since then it's been the same as it was prior to having her. Periods missing for months, managed to conceive on clomid only last year, mc at 7 weeks.

Going on my 3rd month back on metformin. Most gynaes use metformin and either clomid or femara to get ovulation going that's what I've picked up.

Dmestiza, i have PCOS. I was diagnosed when I was 18. I went to an endocrinologist about 1 year prior to TTC and she put me on Max dose of metformin (2000 mg). DH and I started TTC about one year later, came of BC and conceived DS 1 first month! Stayed on metformin through first trimester and then started taking it again aftet I had him. 2 years later decided to TTC again and had never gone back on the bc pill. We conceived first cycle again on metformin only. My doctor told me I would definitely need at least clomid to get pregnant. When I originally asked her if we could try first without she said she would only let us for a couple of months.

I don't ovulate naturally at all, however 2 weeks after starting metformin I got a very faint early BFP which continued to get stronger the next day but then started fading away- it was a chemical :/ 60 days after I had another AF so not sure if I oved again naturally or not. I'm on the next cycle now cd32 and clomid didn't even make me ov so now I'm just waiting!

You need to see a fertility specialist and they will prescribe it.
It got me my beautiful boy.

Thankyou, is there anything else you would suggest? Is evening primrose oil or anything that can help?

Hello I have just been diagnosed with pcos, on a cycle of 95 days now. I'm not on anything atm but I'm being referred to a pcos specialist. I have very large cysts, one on each ovary :(. My gp will not prescribe me metformin or provera to bring on my period. So I'm just kinda waiting for nothing at the moment, which is very frustrating!

I conceived the twins on name brand Metformin (I was also given Letrozole for recurrent MC). I did get pregnant twice without it though. (And once with it that ended as a chemical.)

heyyyy ladies!! thanks for this post makes me feel there are others who understand. I have so much to say hope u dont mind!! can i ask though for those of you on met - did the doctors immediately give this to you after u were diagnosed or did u ask to get ur insulin checked?? my advice - & experience is to trust yourself & your body instinct & to fight for what you need. im asking because my doctors firstly tried to delay my ttc for a year to see if i get pregs naturally - i trusted my body after i noticed i get ovarian pain & went back to the docs they gave me a scan and thats how i noticed the cysts & possible diagnosis for pcos about a month ago. They refused to test my hormones to confirm anything because 'my periods are regular' (they were monstrous before bcp for years). now ive gone twice to complain & say i want my bloods done so now theyve done it i can confirm my pcos & find out what my hormone levels are - my advice is if you have a hunch go for it! if i didnt id be waiting 6 months to find out what im gonna find out in a few days hopefully.

also do u know tribulus is a herb thats been noticed to stimulate ovulation in women who arent ovulating? its like a natural alternative to clomid for anyone whos interested - theres info online.
Im gonna use it after this month if i find out (from temping) that im not o'ing i dont particularly want to use clomid yet.

thanks for the post sorry for the essay! pray you all get bfps xxx

I too have pcos and just started metformin er 1500mg yesterday. My doctor said that he thought I would be able to conceive w/o it but because I have a history of pcos he thought it would help (I've been off of mirena 6 months now but still no baby). He also said that the er was easier on the stomach. I'm assuming that's true since in most cases that I've seen up here people increase there dose weekly. This morning I had an upset stomach but that was fixable! :) anyway, I wish you the best of luck and maybe we will both have a bun in the oven soon!!

Hello Ladies,

So I got my official dx of PCOS today. I have been off BCP since July and haven't had a period. I was on BCP for 10 years, before BCP my periods were all over the place. So I have done a ton of research and have two questions:

1. Does PCOS cause being overweight or does overweight cause PCOS?

2. Who has used Metformin to start ovulating and had weight lost while on it?

My Dr. has me starting Provera today just to get me a false AF and once that is over then I will be meeting with her to come up with a new game plan. I am 26 and hear my clock ticking esp. since my Husband and I want a large family at least 4 but really would like 6 kids!

Blessings & Baby Dust,

I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2008, and immediately my doctor started me on a low carb diet, as I was hesitant to go on Metformin because of the side effects it caused on some of the people I knew who had taken it. After that, I managed it fairly well. My period wasn't super regular but the most it was ever absent was 2.5 months.

More recently though, as in April of this year, I started seeing a naturopath and doing a regime of vitamins/supplements/acupuncture. My AF is super regular now, lasts exactly 30 days and I've seen a huge reduction in breast pain (due to cysts) and cramps. It also helped me lose about 20 pounds and go down 4 dress sizes. I kid you not, I am shocked with the results.

Hello Ladies,

Thought I would come on over and see if there is anything new??

I am about to wrap up my first round of Provera and hope to get AF so I can start keeping track of cycle. Hoping it will jumpstart my body so I get AF monthly!!! Weird to wish for a period but if I can get that back that seems to be half the battle!!!

Blessings & Babydust,
