Hi Ladies

I was just wondering if any of you ladies out there have the hormonal side of PCOS?? Because when I went to see my Gynecologist He told me that my ovaries look healthy and not PCOS. But I do have the symptoms of PCOS. Hair growth, acne, weight gain, irregular periods and ovulation, Unbalanced LH hormone.

The only thing with my ovaries were they were enlarged. But he thinks its because my eggs are maturing but just not releasing due to LH no being at the right level, at too high! So he thinks I may have a metabolism issue and slight insulin resistance, which my be effecting LH

Therefore he has put me on Metformin. Starting at 500mg for one week, then up to 1000mg for the second week and for the third week up to 1500mg and continue it. This is to help reduce side effects. He did say you have had periods and ovulation before this year which were Jan and Feb 2012. And not since then, but surely this proves I am capable of ovulation and periods?? And also naturally/alone without any drugs, surely with drugs it could be more regular?

I was wondering if anyone has a similar case of PCOS as me and has had Metformin before had had some hope and Success from it? Did it work for you and you conceived? How long did it take? Does anyone think it sounds promising for me?? :flower:

:cry::cry:

hey
i have pcos but not all of the usual symptoms.
i do have peroids but my cycles are long so they say the eggs build up and take ages to finally drop.

im currently doing ivf so not sure about the clomid but i know loads of people with pcos and get pregnant on clomid or metromim so to me it sounds promising x

Hi, I am new here. I was just browsing the forums looking for uplifting stories. I was just diagnosed with PCOS. I had been having semi-normal cycles(doctors phrase). My cycles were varying btwn 28-45now days. I am overweight, and had all the tests run. I had no ovarian cysts, no blood sugar issues, no thyroid problems. The only thing out pf whack for me was androgen levels. She said I was also insulin resistant and started me on metformin. I am taking 1 500mg pill a day this week, 2 next week, then 3 after that. I hope that this helps me with the randomness of my cycles. The doctor said it would also help me shift the weight I've gained in the last year or so. Here's hoping it works out for us,

I meant to put in my post that my PCOS symptoms were damn near identical to yours. Weight gain, acne, random hairs. I must've just thought I put it there and not actually typed it out, lol.

I just don't know what to think of the Metformin. Im hoping its a good drug!! And Ive lost 6pounds but Ive only been on the pills for 3 days so I think it has something to do with my dieting weeks before. 6 pounds though :happydance:

I hope it brings back my periods and ovulation also. I hope they balance my hormones out because apparently that is my problem just an hormone imbalance.

Congrats on your 6 lbs. I am only on day 2 of metformin, so I'm hoping it helps out too. It makes my stomach a little upset, that's probably why my doctor is making me go up gradually. I have been having periods, but I hope this regulates them to a normal cycle. They've been bopping around between 28-45 days for the last year or so.

My cycles can be anything from 40-49 days or two to three months or so at a time. I have ovulated I just need to get that LH hormone level so I can ovulate. My gynecologist says my ovaries look healthy but enlarged he thinks this is because I have a chain of mature eggs waiting to be released but the cant due to my hormone inbalance.

I think I may of ovulated on the 19th July actually because my temp was high the day before and on the 19th it dropped back down and I had one sided cramps and Clear, slippery and watery CM. And I have found out today I have lost another 3 pounds! :happydance:

I think I responded to you in another thread as well, but I've got PCOS and am on Metformin. I do have the cysts in addition to everything else, but from what I read that just varies from woman to woman and from time to time within each woman. Metformin and a change in diet have helped me lose 70 pounds now in the last year. Within 4 months of starting Metformin I was not only ovulating but pregnant. Sadly I have other things wrong with me and I've now suffered 2 miscarriages, but the Metformin got me to the point where I could even get pregnant in my opinion - especially when you consider that that was following 17 months of no cycles at all.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance. :)

Hi there im Sarah.

Im so sorry to hear about you loss :flower:

Yes Im on my second week of Metformin now. I was just looking for some hope behind all the. I have now gone 5 months with no AF you see and before I got diagnosed I went 7 months with no AF I was quite sick too..

But after coming of the pill I had two natural AF'S! I think this just goes to show i can ovulate and have AF. Maybe I gained a bit of weight and it put my AF and hormones out of sink.. But I was dieting 2 weeks before I went on Metformin. And found out Ive lost a total of 11 pounds in 3-4 weeks times

Was really nice to meet you, and to hear some good things about the drug, I was thinking I wont ovulate again or have a baby.. I thought pigs will fly first

Good luck :dust:

Hi I have PCOS and all the usual symptoms .. I have been to see a FS but all I was told was to lose weight !!!!!!! Now Im not a Dr and I can see that for myself !!!! .. I was told to go to slimming world .. which I did ... I was then told by the class leader that she wasnt medically trained to deal with ladies with PCOS as there can be problems with insulin resistance !!!!!!! .. so I lost half a stone and it didnt go any further :S .........

SO .. I took matters into my own hands and have done LOADS of research ... and the conclusion I have came to is VITAMIN D .... in short Vit D is used by the body for more than just teeth and bones .. it is need to absorb magnesium copper zinc and other essential vits and minerals ... most importantly there is receptors in your pituitary gland for Vit D and if your pituitary gland is running at full power then your hormone levels should be corrected.

My af came between 35-50 days .. within 1 month of starting high levels of Vit D .. I had a 28 day cycle .. and I ovulated with loads of cm ...TMI>> I had a good red flow .. no brown sludge or clots and it lasted 5 days .. total text book af

Also I have lost half a stone as my body seems to be getting my blood sugars under control and not turning it to fat !!! I have also cleared up a skin condition and my gums have stopped bleeding ... so if there is a physical improvement I can see the think of the improvements I cant !!!

The icing on the cake would be to get my BFP .. but this may take 3 months as the egg needs 90 day to matured and be released .. so hopefully my new supplements are working away to improve my future eggs !!! :D

I had one natural AF after coming off the pill and then nothing for 17 months. If you haven't already done this, you might also consider going gluten free. It's something that I just started a week ago, but I'm already feeling better. I don't know that it's going to affect my cycles at all, but it was pretty interesting reading the comments on this page: https://thesavvyceliac.com/2009/11/02/is-pcos-a-symptom-of-a-gluten-sensitivity-or-celiac-disease/

Celiac disease inflames the digestive tract which means it is enable to absorb nutrients correctly, so really everything comes down to nutrition .. pcos is a autoimmune condition and so is celiac disease .. unfortunitally if you have one you may suffer from others, so eating a gluten free diet is a very good idea :-D

I have been GF for YEARS and know if I eat gluten with in 20 minutes! oh the pain! I just want to say that I would be happy to help anyone starting into their GF diet.

When I first went GF I lost 20 lbs in 2 months - everyone kept asking me if I was ill or sick *whispers* do you have cancer

No! I said I am hungry!!!!!! I didnt know what I could eat accept rice! I would take spoonfuls of peanut butter just to try to get some protein!

if I can prevent someone else from being miserably hungry for 2 months while they learn - I would be happy

I say just try it

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and was finally given Metformin last year after taking for a few months I had a period wahoo! It was my first period on my own for years. I had to stop taking the metforimin in march this year due to an underlying bowel problem however I did have another period in June on my own.

I haven't been able to detect ov but then I've never had much luck with those things. I do however think that if I was still taking them my periods would become more regular.

Unfortunately due to other problems I have I doubt that I would be able to detect my ov but the Metformin definitely helped me get my periods.

I am hoping to get back on it in the next few months.

I have PCOS. My cycles were anywhere from 28 to 42 days before being on metformin, and since have regulated to about 28-32 days. After 3 months on Met, i got pregnant (ended in MC).

I have had multiple bloodtests done, and everything looks normal - except elevated sugars, whicht he Met will help with. My hormones have always been normal, except I have never had progesterone tested, but will after my first clomid cycle.

I know people with PCOS who have the cysts, but not much of the other symptoms, I have also seen people with PCOS with every symptom, but not really any cysts.
