Soooo
Things are going great, baby is moving frequently though most of the time its something I feel, not see. Sometimes, if I lay flat and still I can the acrobatics of this baby to the preferred ride (right).

After my last OB appt they asked for a thorough history which includes post partum hemorrhage (twice), preterm labor (once fell down some stairs) and they found anti-body e in my blood....

so all of those things have caused my OB to refer me out to a perinatologist for an additional eval.

I was a little surprised with the referral but after she said why (named my three risk factors) it made sense.

So I have an appt earlier than expected on tuesday, complete with an US.

We shall see how it goes.

<3 Not worried though, fingers crossed I won't need to be!

Hi,

I am considered high-risk (mostly due to an abundance of caution) and honestly so far I have just found the extra attention/more frequent scans to be reassuring.

I am a first-timer though so maybe if you really know what you are doing it could be annoying.
Good luck at your appointment and I hope all is well!

I agree the extra visits and scans are super fun and reassuring, my last pregnancy I was monitored extra but I never had to see a perinatalogist, so it's all a little new to me. I'm also worried about my financial responsibility on my behalf of my insurance 😁😁😁

Im excited bc I heard the perinatalogist scans are more advanced and I wast expecting a scan until 6 more weeks! So it's a nice surprise (pending the cost lol).

I also will be giving myself progesterone shots starting next week as a result of my history of preterm labor. I did it with my last since the preterm labor was with my first- bc of what happened with dd1 I "Have" to do the shots every pregnancy I have from 14wks-36wks

And just to clarify with dd1-
I fell down some steep stairs at 32 (I believe it was) weeks, then, I had 3 bad contractions (that I didn't know at the time were contractions) in the span of 16 hours. The next day I happened to have an ob visit. The end of appt came and as I'm getting ready to wrap up and leave, the midwife asked If I had any questions. I said no, my mom said "tell her about the contractions and the fall"- oh yea....

The midwife checked my cervix and I was 3cm 80% effaced. So to the hospital I went. Steroids given for baby's lungs. Magnesium to slow down contractions. Bed rest (which I never really followed) for 4 weeks. I had her at 35w6d. No problems. She was 6lbs 8oz.

Since then, I've been dubbed a preterm-er.

I saw a perinatologist with my daughter. I can't recall how much more it cost, but that all depends on insurance anyway. And yep, the scans were much better than at OB's office. Mine had huge flat screen on the wall so I could see everything on the scan. It was so nice. And with mine, the tech scanned me and gave me pics and then the doctor came in and scanned as well and told me what he was looking at. Much more detailed. Good luck

I'm considered high risk, and the scans at the maternal fetal specialist is a zillion times better. They also have 3d and 4d scans available....and if you get a really nice tech/doctor, they'll let you take a peek at that too!

I also love the extra screens on the wall so you see everything they see, and they go into much more thorough details about it.

I get my first consult and scan with them in three more weeks.

Last pregnancy, all went well, but just as a precaution, I had to go 3x a week for the non stress test, and once a week ultrasound.

It was nice. :). I mush have gotten at least a dozen scans throughout my entire pregnancy.

I have to go weekly to perinatology just now, then upped to more after I believe about 22 weeks. Its a lot of hassle having to get there all the time but they are very through and go into a lot of detail, last weeks scan was a full 2 hours of scanning! I don't pay any extra on top of my maternity coverage with our insurance but likely it changes depending on the insurance you have.

I have 5 preemies and this one has already tried escaping, I get preterm labour but the biggest thing is pprom that gets earlier each time. I do the progesterone shots too, did them for the prior 2 also (32 and 31 weekers) I think they made a big difference getting my last to 30 weeks before pprom with the amount of complications in that pregnancy.

I've had to see a perinatologist almost from the start of my pregnancy due to my high-ish blood pressure and early induction due to preeclempsia and iugr in my previous pregnancy, and honestly I enjoy being able to see my baby in an ultrasound once a month, and now once a week. I was able to meet my maximum out of pocket of $2500 for my insurance a little at a time so it wasn't overwhelming and now that I have met it all my docs appts, prescriptions and the hospital bill will be free, so that is a big weight off my husband's shoulders (we were worried about having to pay a huge hospital bill after all this). I was reassured about this or that at every appt so I didn't stress and worry about this or that unnecesarily. It made me feel better knowing that I was carefully monitored. Good luck in your pregnancy and rest assured that you will be well taken care of.

Ps, the ultrasounds are way better, more detailed and I found out gender at like 15 weeks. The doc is so nice as well as the nurses and staff. I love my specialist and hope you have a great experience too.

I also see a perinatologist. I haven't met my newest, we recently moved here so waiting for insurance to kick in.

My history is...

1st: water broke at 29+1 and handful of times went into preterm labor- they were able to stop them and I gave birth at term.
2nd: placenta slowly started tearing off in early second trimester, water started leaking at 19+5, not sure when dilation started but I was dilated 5 at 35 weeks.
3rd: baby boy was stillbirth. There was a drastic change in my cervix. Went from 4.0cm to 2.8cm in three week time.
4th: miscarriage due to water breaking
5th: chemical or ovum (miscarried four days after first positive)
6th: Lost another baby boy to a very rare umbilical cord infection. No problems during pregnancy.
7th: chemical or blighted ovum (miscarried five days after first positive)

8th: my current. So far so good but because of my history with pprom/preterm labor and two late losses I need extra care.

Mine has gotten earlier each time as well which is extremely scary as my 4th was lost to pprom going into second trimester. The doctor has already mentioned a cervical cerclage. I start progesterone shots at sixteen weeks.

It is extremely scary! Do you have a reason for your pprom? I cant do the cerclage as with my genetic condition my tissue is too fragile, the stitch would open up. I hope you can get everything you can that will help you get further along! Alt have major success with the progesterone, have you tried them before? You can ask for steroids at 23/24 weeks as a precaution also.:hugs: How did you manage to get to term after your pprom?

I don't know why I have recurrent pprom, which from what I've read is rare. When I have those days of extra discharge, I run to the bathroom scared it's my amniotic fluid. I was going to start the progesterone shots at 16 weeks in April and my son died the day before the appointment so I haven't tried them before. With my oldest, the one I went fullterm and over with, I had a lot of hospital stays and at some point they thought it resealed or was a hindwater leak.

Mine is recurrent and will happen this time earlier. I have Ehlers Danlos type 1 and this is a pretty common complication in that. Might be worth a look with yours being recurrent? Or maybe its a cervix issue. I hope you get much further on this time! So sorry for your losses:hugs:
