Do you think people would be interested in getting a personalised story for their kids? I'm a bit of a writer and was thinking of offering this service. How much would you pay? What format would you expect it in? Would you be happy just being emailed it or would you expect illustrations etc?

I am looking at getting the kids one for xmas, the one's we're going for are 13 pounds each in hard cover, with illustrations etc, and choice of story, my oldest wants to be in toy story 3 x

See, I was actually thinking of writing original stories based on info provided about the child, rather than have a set story that I just insert the child's name. There's no way it would be practical for me to create actual books, the costs would just be too high.

Oh well. Back to the drawing board lol

You could do a short one page story and print it off on some nice paper and send it in a fancy envelope.

ooo it would be nice if you could do a wax seal with a christmassy style seal

my sister had a gorgeous one when she
was little and she LOVED it!

it was a hardback with pictures and personal
info put into the story line ... can't remember
how much my mum paid but it was a fab
pressie!

Do you mean a story written FOR that child about something in that childs life? I think that is a beautiful idea!

I'm not sure how much I would pay for it... it would depend on how long the story was, how the book was 'made' (e.g nicely bound, spiral bound or just pages) and what illustrations were included. I think a childrens book/story of any type needs illustrations (the icing on the cake would be nice drawings of the child in the story!), whether that is just pencil drawing, coloured drawings or photographs. I'd be pretty happy having something like this emailed because then I could choose how best to present it (probably having it bound or spiral bound).

I think done right you could create a really lovely heirloom for a child to keep forever.

Just to add - you say you could not afford to produce a proper book, what about using companies that make photo books? I think that most allow text on the pages and if you were using illustrations I don't see that they could have a problem with it? Just an idea

i like the idea of the one page story, like a letter type thing, i wouldnt pay for an email though i dont see the point of that x

I had one given to me at xmas one year! It was gorgeous I loved it and still have it now so I think it's a lovely idea :cloud9:
