hi,

have a couple of a strange questions that hopefully some1 can answer.

whilst we were on holiday last week the LCD screen on my camera (fuji finepix s5800) managed to get a chip in it, its not really big but is there.

1. is it likely to crack more?
2. would i be able to get it fxed?
3. rough idea to get it fixed?
4. am i best claiming off insurance or just paying out? (my insurace excess for out of home accidents is £20)

thanks

Debbie - Alyssa looks so cute in her halloween outfit! I think I need to invest in a few pieces of coloured material if I want to try doing some more childrens shoots at peoples homes.

Amy I would suggest taking your camera into somewhere like Jessops or a specialised camera shop if you have one and asking them to look at the chip and give you an opinion on it. Personally I would be tempted to carry on using the camera for the time being and if it ends up cracking say it got knocked off something and claim on your insurance.

thanks. it hasnt affected the taking of pics, i used it the whole time on holiday and it wasnt until we got home and unpacked i noticed it. jessops is the only decent shop in the area, will nip it in next time in town.

Hi
How do I upload the photos on here? I tried once but it didn't seem to work!

Thanks

hi,

i took the camera into jessops to see what they said. they reckon it will be £120-160 to get the screen repaired! the chip is likely to turn to a crack or shatter completely (but cant say if it would be days/weeks/months etc). and i a likely to get damp/dirt into the camera due to chips and this will cost even more to be repaired.

lady advised me to claim off household insurance or the "out of home bit" and pay the £20 excess and get a new camera. depending on policy i will either get a like for llike sent to me or a cheque of which i can choose a new 1 or vouchers for jessops.

going to ring insurance company tomorrow.

hi,

i rang insurance company and explained what had happened and what jessops said etc, was put on hold whilst guy rang jessops, they told him what i had - chips could turn to cracks, damp could get in, cost about £150 to repair (more if damp gets in) and they would advise replacing it.

so claim has been set up and i am getting replacement. ths s5800 that i have is no longer available and the camera of equivilant value to what i paid last yr doesnt seem as good. so i am paying £30 extra onto my excess (£50 total) and i am getting the fuji s2000hd as replacement. it has more mega pixel and zoom than mine and does stuff that mine didnt like face finder and anti-shake. this is selling between £189 and £249.

only thing i cant find about it is what size extra lenses it takes as OH has got me 2 for the s5800 and i dont know if they going to fit.

I've wondered how the claiming all works, as I might of broken mine slightly tonight. It got soaked when a wave got me! My mum said we can put it on the house insurance?

Anyway, I manged to save the images, here you go:

you can only claim for damage out of the house IF you have this on your policy. it cost us exra to have but as we go away for weekends quite a bit and take the mobiles, camera's, laptop etc it was worth paying for.

those photos are great. i tried to take some of fireworks last night (on firework setting) and only got black sky! do i need to just keep camera at sky and keep pushing button or is there a nack to getting fireworks???

Well, I used a Tripod, a Shutter Remote, Manual Mode and 1 - 3 second Exposures on ISO 100.

But that's Canon talk, but I would highly advise the Tripod for ANYTHING to do with the Night, and the Shutter Remote means that I can take pics without touching the Camera, avoiding shake.

i tried some fireworks shoots last night, use tripod and bulb setting amd on 2 sec shutter speed, set apature about 16.

i kept missing them as the went higher or blew of too one side but heres some of the best ones.

Nice! Yeah it was tricky. And I missed the huge one at the end because they blew it off to the left out my view! You have to keep looking out for the rocket streak going up, and then time it, haha.

thanks for that will see what i can do over weekend.

hi,

i took these last night, didnt have a tri-pod with me (mine is table top size) and i had camera on firework setting. i'm really pleased with them. i took over 120 photos and only 14 were blank screens!

thank you. they are the 1s i really like out of all of them. i thought there would be more blank screens than i got. i did cutsome of them in half as i thought they were going higher than they did. LOL! but they do look good in a strange way (if that makes sense)

nice work i think they look fab.
i missed out on taking pics this year it was peeing with rain all day and we went along anyway but i thought best not to take the camera and it turned out to be a great night i was gutted! haha

thank you. the ppl next to me thought i was mad taking photos and made a comment "that most of them would be of blank screen". LOL! i did think there would be more than there was though.

did anyone seemy post about the new camera? can anyone tell me what size additional lens's it takes? camera is the fuji s2000hd. thanks
