Photography Club

You have some beautiful pics Anna, - do you know how tempted I am to study one of your pics for my homework assignment this week? lol

(presentation on "the frame" - choose any picture by any photographer - they don't have to be famous, and give a presentation on the photo, focusing on the use of the frame with a little background about the photographer.) lol

Wow! Thanks Mynxie, I'm really flattered :)

OK guys... heres my first photo
I took it back in feb and Ive just had a play around on photoshop :)

https://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll109/lufcrule08/snowday5thfeb17.jpg
Looking at it now though, still not something quite right... think the right side looks to bright?!

Anyway thought I would share

Looks great Kerry! I see what you mean about the right hand side; why not try cropping both sides of the image till you're left with a vertical letterbox format? It will remove the brightness on the right, balane the image's symmetry, and make the most of the tree-lined walkway you captured.

It looks fab in B&W, by the way! Really well seen.

Ok had another play round and I come up with this :)

https://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll109/lufcrule08/snowday5thfeb17a.jpg

Not bad considering I didnt take the picture to do anything with it persifically (sp?)

I need some ideas on what to shoot :) I also want some tips on taking pics of birthday parties.. and babies..!!
Any website recommendations...?? or books?? thanks again :hugs:

That crop works well too - especially as you say you didn't set out to take it with a specific purpose in mind :)

As for ideas of what to photograph, why not set a theme? Something like "things in the kitchen", "things around town", "red", "old", "baby toys", etc.

The internet is a great tool for tips... just search for "how to photograph babies" or similar. Here's one I find useful:

https://digital-photography-school.com/photographing-babies

Sites like www.ephotozine.com is full of tips, how-tos, ideas and information. You can also post images there to get feedback, but it's just one of many photography forums out there. I like ephotozine, flickr, Photography Cafe and Enjoying Photography, personally.

Annabanana9 your pictures are amazing!! Do you mind me asking what camera it is your using? I was considering going for either the nikon d60 or the cannon 450d and getting myself on a beginners course to kick start me. Ive been having a play about recently have no idea if they are any good. See what you think

Must say i do like black and white pics

Thank you emma_27  I use a Nikon D200. Both of the cameras you are looking at are very good; the best advice I can give is to go to a shop and try them both out. It's important that whichever camera you pick feels "right" in your hands, as it means you are more likely to be comfortable with it, and possibly use it more and get more from it. Don't forget to have a look at DSLRs by Olympus, Samsung, Pentax and Sony as well as the "big two" - they all make excellent cameras as well (although you do tend to have a greater choice of lenses with Nikon or Canon - but that may not be a huge factor for you, as there is still plenty of choice with the other manufacturers as well.) Your photos are very good; I especially like the portriat. Great angle, lovely expression, and works well in B&W. You captured her eyes so well - they just sparkle! Am glad the link helped, too :) I would recommend joining the 3 communities I mentioned as well - great for feedback and asking questions/getting advice in the forums (I'm AnnaBanana on them all LOL)

Kerry, I really like those 2 of Courtney - what a beauty she is!

Thanks for the advice Anna! I might be getting on this week abit nervous really spending so much im tempted to see if i can find one on ebay for cheaper and see how i go with it so im not spending as much. Theres so many cameras its all very confusing lol.

Ebay is a good option if buying new - again, I would still recommend visiting a shop and trying out the various brands and models first. I would only recommend buying a camera used when you can fully inspect it and test it beforehand.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I'm no pro and no expert, but may be able to help a little.

I'd love to get into photography but really have no idea how to go about it. I love taking pictures, here are a few of mine. Hope you don't mind me hijacking Kerry! What do you think, please be truthful!

Hi Jem :hi: Hooray! Another photographer :happydance:

Those are lovely candids - I especially like the first one. The expressions on their faces are wonderful. They also work well in B&W :)

Thank you AnnaBanana :) I'm never really sure if they're any good or not as my family say they are but they're family so you feel others would be more truthful so thank you again x

They are really nice jem!! I cant seem to capture my two together for some reason.
I got one of Ellie awhile back that everyone thinks is good but im not sure myself. Im not that good on photoshop yet still practicing.

Awww Emma - what a beautiful expression you captured on Ellie's face! I would love to see this in colour and in B&W as well. She looks so content :)
