So... taken me ages to get the courage to write this, but I need personal insight as its the ONLY thing worry me about labour.

I have got piles in this pregnancy, and OMG they are so painful at times.... how will this affect labour?

Like will pushing make them worse? Will it give me more piles? Will it actually not be a problem?

Ive spoken to my mum about it... she advised to not push until I am 10cm and ready... anyone got anything else? :flower:

Your mum is right. Pushing for as short a time as possible will help. When you reach the final weeks maybe really get serious about treating them with cream. It's definitely something worth speaking to your GP and midwife about. In the meantime just really make sure you're never constipated to avoid putting stress on them.

I had pretty bad piles after having DS and they got worse while I was pregnant with DD. I asked my MW about it as I was worried they'd hurt during pushing. She said that its common to have piles when you deliver and that its rare to have problems with them, you just won't notice them. It was true for me and they're not any worse than they were before :)

I had them in the last few weeks of pregnancy as they did get worse after labour but they werent really so bad, the midwife pushed them back in for me (lol). Treat them with cream as much as you can beforehand if you think it is going to be an issue for you x

Thanks ladies.. i have brought cream about 2 weeks ago and only Used it once as the pain was that bad. I will take all your info on board... thanks x

I had them with lo, I pushed for an hour and half with her and I did have more come up but they actually went down on their own pretty quickly after I gave birth with some haemorrhoid cream, and mine were quite bad. Once your not pregnant and their is less pressure down there it helps, just make sure to eat lots of fibre to

I did a lot of pushing with mine for about 1.5 hours, and got a 3rd degree tear. Most of the pain was probably coming from the tear, so not sure how bad the pain actually was, but healing was not too bad. Never suffered form piles before I was pregnant, now I get flare ups occasionally, but never sore at all. I was scared of labour with it too, but not as bad as I thought.

I think it's impossible to say. My mum got them terribly with me. I pushed for 4 hours, yes, 4 hours, and I didn't have a single one. We both had completely natural births. I don't know if it made a difference, but I was upright and mobile the whole time (never even got on a bed until after to cuddle with baby), but my mom was on her back the whole time. I think it's probably more just chance and maybe a pre-existing susceptibility?

I had them before labour and then ended up pushing for nearly two hours. Afterwards they were pretty bad (even midwife commented on how sore they looked!) and caused me more discomfort than the stitches I had. But without the pressure of the baby anymore they got better really fast. I'd say within a week or two I was fine again.

I'd imagine if I have another baby I will suffer again but I won't be as scared as i was about them last time.

Good luck and don't worry about them. Whatever happens during labour they will get better after you've given birth.
