Hi,

I found out at my 20 week scan my placenta was low and had to be re scanned today.

The placenta has not moved and is slightly under babies head, baby is head down.

The consultant has arranged for another scan in 2 weeks when I'll be 36 weeks to see if it's moved and if it hasn't then I'll be admitted 2 hospital and a section will be done at 38 weeks.

Has anyone had this? I have been told that as I'm 34 weeks now the chances of it moving in the next 2 weeks are slim.

I'm so worried....

Hi,

Read your post on the other link too, I'm having mine checked next week (34 weeks) also had baby resting head last time but wasn't covering cervix just touching.

Is yours covering cervix at all, hadn't contemplated having to be hospitalised as I have a 2 yr old and wouldn't like that, I know bleeding can be an issue but I've not had any to date.

Hope you get some more advice here.

Inka x

I was re-scanned yesterday, mine is totally covering my cervix so ive been booked in to see a consultant on monday to draw up a care plan & been told a c section is the only option as they are certain it wont move now :-(

Hi Inka,

Thanks for your reply. Mine isn't covering totally, it's partially covering.
I'm thinking the same, I have a 6 year old so my partner has arranged to take time off work.
Although there is still a chance of it moving its very slim past 34 weeks so I'm not very hopeful.

Please update on your scan and good luck x

I'm sorry to hear that, at least you know for deffo what's going to happen though I suppose.

With me I have to now wait 2 weeks then probably stay in hospital from this day until my sects date which will be another 2 weeks from then so when I'm 38 weeks.

I'm scared as I don't know and have 2 wait again.... Plus with my son I gave birth at 37 weeks which they have said could happen again as same partner.

I'm worried about going into labour on my own before the section date and bleeding... It terrifies me :0( xx

How early will ur section be booked for?

Hiya.

My low lying placenta was spotted at 20 weeks. It was 'encroaching' internal os. Was rescanned at 34 weeks...it was now 27mm from internal os. (previa in my area is classed as 25mm - so I was boarderline)

Rescanned at 36 weeks not believing it to move..it has to 41mm (sonographer believed this would be fine) saw a consultant who offered me a c sect if I was worried but he wasn't worried as he said it wasn't even previa. I know 2 weeks doesn't seem long but it defiantly can move.. As these last few weeks our bellys grow a lot!

Good luck, let us know how you get on x

37 weeks 6days x

Just had my 34 week scan and although it looks like my prosterior placenta has moved monographer discovered possible 'succentiate lobe' next to cervix opening. Her confusion was the most unsettling as she was doing training but then had to take over and she couldn't be certain what it was????

Consultant said not to worry but if placenta lobe I have to section but I've asked for one anyway, so that's not an issue for me. Being scanned in 2 weeks but if I bleed I have to contact them ASAP....stress again xx

Hi ladies just wanted to ask what the reason is for being hospitalized at 36 weeks when section is planned for 38 weeks ? I too have low placenta & would like to know in advance because I also have another child to worry about ?? Thanks

Because the placenta is low you could bleed heavily which could be dangerous so if you're in hospital it's quicker to sort you out and basically get the baby out and stop the bleeding.

They only keep you in if your high risk, so usually been bleeding previously and cervix covered and sometimes they consider how close you are live to the hospital and let you stay home if you live very close.

My midwife told me this week if I bleed heavily I must dial 999, and if I start bleeding lightly to go straight to delivery suite.... Rather unsettling but I've had no bleeding at all, so hopeful I'll go to my planned section date, 4 weeks yesterday x

I have this, placenta is 7mm away from o/s and I was scanned yesterday at 32 weeks + 4 days. I'm having another scan at 34 weeks and i'll be admitted at 36 weeks too cause I had bleeding at 26 weeks.

I was also told ring for an ambulance if you bleed since i'm a drive from the hospital xx

I was scanned again yesterday 34+6, mine is still totally covering!!!
I was told at my last appointment they would try to get me to 39 weeks before c-section but now they think i have O.C as well so that changes things again :-(

Sorry to hear your all in a similar situation 2 myself. It's not nice atall and very worrying.

I have been in hospital for just over 2 weeks now and my section is in 6 days time!

I cannot wait but I'm quite nervous about it.

I also have a 6 year old son so it's been really hard 4 me, at least the end is now in sight.

Good luck 2 u all xxx

How have you found the stay? They are wanting me to go and stay in hospital soon and I have a 2 year old so not exactly looking forward to it!

Good luck for your section, the end is in sight and I bet you can't wait to meet your baby :)

Thank you :0)

It's been really hard. It's probably the hardest thing I've had 2 do. It's killing me being away from my family and my home but its the safest option.
I'd rather be in here incase I start 2 bleed so I suppose it's just 1 of those things.

If u have 2 stay in u will get through it.. I have xxx good luck

Sorry I havent read all the replies. If it helps any, my placenta didnt move until wk 38. It got to 2.1cm at the last scan, and they said they were happy for me to have a vaginal birth based on this. Actually I ended up having an emcs, but that's another unrelated story.... good luck xx
