What are the chances of another miscarriage if I did not wait a few months after the first one?
I posted this before and I got the reassurance that "many" get healthy babies even if they dd not wait.
but after reading the Mc Support forum/bfp announcements and through this forum, I realise even more women miscarry (again)/have chemicals once they got pregnant without waiting a few months.
So please, I need your honest opinions and would like to hear about your experiences whether bad or good as long as they are honest.
If you've got multiple m/cs caused by not waiting in between, then please tell me. I am still trying to make up my mind whether or not to try or to wait cause my first AF after my dnc is starting come (spotting at the moment).
just a short story - i had a missed m/c at 6+6, then had a dnc cause my body refused to miscarry on its own (my hcg and progesterone was still going up). they did an autopsy on the tissue and found no cause or signs of molar, probably genetic from the beginning. I stopped spotting 2 days after the dnc, hcg hit 0 a week later and I ovulated on the 29.06 and am spotting today, so my luteal phase is still at 14days unchanged.

thanks for you honest opinions.

Its a very personal decision that should be made after consulting with your ob/gyn.
My doc recommended to wait at least two (regular) cycles. I have no experience with trying straight away im afraid...

My experience was we tried straight away after our MC and got pregnant without a period inbetween.. We lost that one, but I don't think it was linked. The one thing was it made it so much worse losing two so close together.

Also I must say, if you read the TTC after loss forum and/or the miscarriage boards they are filled with sad news unfortunately.

I bet that for every one of us in here with our losses, there are three girls who go onto first trimester, then second, then third then the baby club. We just don't notice that as once girls have happy news they don't tend to come back here!

I had my first MC in march then i had 1 period then i fell pregnant again and ive just had another MMC.
But i dont link the two, i think i ve just been very unlucky. I'm going for a D&C tomorrow and ive already decided we will try again ASAP.
I men if i'm advised to wait a little, then i will but at 39 my age is against me

I've heard different scenarios.

Personally we had a missed miscarriage and then two months later, my doctor is unsure as to whether we had another. She thinks it may have been leftover HCG since I miscarried at week 17.

My colleagues (two of them) miscarried, and got right back to ttc and got pregnant even before they got a period. They both carried to full term.

I think it depends on the individual and whether your body is ready or not. My cycle did not return for two months so my body was clearly not ready.. we start trying,,, but apparently I wasn't even ovulating.. so our frustrations were futile.

It is now 5 months after the miscarriage and we are now ovulating (confirmed). Continue to believe and follow your heart! Good luck!

I MC in April, had one cycle and my husband and I did try before the second cycle but it didn't come to anything. Tried again after the second cycle and again nothing, I'm not sure if I even OV this past time. I believe I MC due to hormonal imbalances which are still trying to balance out (I base this on my basal temps). My cousin who has MS, miscarried with her second child, had one cycle, got pregnant again and now has two beautiful children. It possible to have a healthy pregnany soon after a MC but I would at least have one healthy cycle first and just be in tone with your body.

thanks girls
my doctor neither advised for nor against ttc. He said I am ready to start anytime, but according to statistics, the risk of another m/c is slightly higher if we got pregnant rightaway. I am ready to take the risks. but its just that the mmc really takes a long time and delays ttc by months!
I mean if I did conceive, then have a mmc later and only find out weeks later followed by a dnc weeks later and recovery weeks later; it would have been quicker and faster. Just to give you all an example, I conceived mid april, got my bfp end of april. had the mmc mid May, but only found out 2-3weeks later at my scan (some don't even find out till their 12 week scan!!); then followed by a d&c in June and recovery or first af only shows up in JULY!!! i mean that's MONTHS after the mmc. I don't think I can go through the whole process for the another 3 months!
i thought if I just waited 1 month in between, conceived a healthy baby and carry on from there, it would have been faster and less stressful....but its no guarantee as well...

A couple of docs I spoke to advised that its best to wait and that there could be a higher risk of mc if u concieve too soon. They were docs in the EPAU so I guess they see alot of women who come back alot due to falling quickly then losing again.

I do think its personal preference, I myself am unable to ttc yet, I had mmc 3 mths ago then had retained products so had dnc 3 wks ago, I want to have 2 normal af's before trying again to give my body chance to get ready for the baby. im also going to have some mc tests done which im gonna have in a couple of months.

Good luck with whatever you decide :hugs:

i had a MMC last feb, tired straight away after reading many woned had fallen on and gone full term. drs told me i can try straight away, no reason to wait for one/two cycles. i fell on on my 3rd cycle and now ive got a healthy 6 month old.

thanks girls

Thank You forposting this information as this is the same question I have been wondering about. I seen my baby active and bubbly at 8w5d with a heartbeat of 178bpm. 12 weeks, on vacation, I started bleeding light brown which was accompanied by cramping low down on my sides and back pain. Went to hospital and they said the baby died at 9 weeks (WTF??!!)....the baby was in there for 3 weeks....had a D&C the next day....I am on my 7th day and the bleeding is horrendous.......I have a post op appt (back home) today in a few hours.....I'll be asking the same questions! Thanks for your information!

There are really no guarantees either way. You could wait, then fall pregnant and m/c. then not only will you feel vexed that you waited inbetween but upset that you have gone on to have another m/c. Personally i would suggest you try when you want to. I agree with the other post that said, most people on this forum will have experienced losses and mulitple losses but plenty will have a m/c and then go on to have a baby. x

I agree with the other girls. I think it really has to be a personal decision for you. I had an early mc last cycle and didn't really "try" this cycle because I needed the mental healing. I charted temps so as not to get out of habit and we didn't use protectiIon, but I didn't go all out like a normal ttc cycle. I am still young though, know that generally speaking I have no problems having a healthy baby. I didn't think it would be a problem to wait a cycle.

If you want to wait, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you want to try straight away I think you probably can. If you go on to have multiple mc you may be able to seek the treatment you could need sooner rather than if you wait and then have another in 2 months, etc. but I think mentally and emotionally you need to be ready for the outcome of either. :hugs2:

some say you could start right away...nd have a health baby but i think its best to wait two months or so to give your body a rest..good luck sorry for your lost

I just got back from my appointment and we can go one of two ways.

#1. If the bleeding does not slow down by thursday, they will torture me again and again. They will do another ultrasound to see how much/if any tissue is left and perform ANOTHER D&C.

#2. If the bleeding does get a little lighter but still flowing they will give me a shot of progesterone to stop the bleeding.

This doctor advised me to wait 1-2 cycles before trying again.

Ugh.......Gross part ever: I still had to have a pelvic exam even though I was bleeding for two......so gross.....

my ob/gyn told me that it's incredibly common for women get pregnant immediately following a mc (and that it's perfectly alright)... in fact, she's told us not to wait to try again bc of my age (37).

ps i've had 5 mc's in 20 months... and they've all been many months apart.

Mummy blues I love your John 11 passage. After my second MC, I tried to conceive immediatly following (no cycles, no AF) and got pregnant. I carried to term with only one small bleed at 9 weeks. I suspect that small bleed at 9 weeks MIGHT have been due to some unresolved issue with the prior MC but I've heard of many ladies, in my own life and on here, that sometimes bleed around the 9 week mark so in all honesty, the bleed was probably unrelated in my opinion. I would like to add that if I had it to do over again, after reading what you described with that lenghty timeframe/process, I'm thinking the waiting one money for AF and ovulation to 'level out' sounds like a good idea. I know it was mentioned above that having possibly two MC in a row was so much worse, that would be terrible but even when they are not in a row they are so terrible so I don't think that should be a criteria but as the others have said-go with your gut (or you seem to be a woman of faith-give it to God)!
Good luck to you-

Hi girls, thanks for your replies.
Well, if i do get a 2nd missed miscarriage in a row (which I hope won't happen without a reason!) , me and DH might have to go for genetics testing at the genetics specialists and Immunological testing for myself, because its protocol over here if it happens 2 times in a row. unless the miscarriage is caused by something else like structural problems of the cervix, or a hormones a chemical.
We talked about it with our Ob Gyn after I was diagnosed with MMC, so we will know what to do if it does happen again, but its very unlikely as they did an autopsy on the tissue and did not find any problematic chromosomes that could indicate sth like down syndrome or any other diseases.
The report just states: "Missed Abortion with no indication"

Ive had 4 mcs with a cycle break inbetween each, not from lack of trying just didnt get pregnant, so it was #1 bfp/natural mc, #2 bfn/af, #3 bfp/natural mc, #4 bfn/af, #5 bfp/natural mc, #6 bfn/af, #7 bfp/mmc/d&c, #8 bfp and have gone the longest to date. My docs have never told me to wait even after the d&c, wasnt really aiming just happened. Its really a personal choice, as one of the other posters said you could wait 3 months and god forbid the same thing could happen, dont wait and you could get pregnant and go full term, I suppose you just have to ask yourself could you handle the worst case senario if it happened so soon after the last, I find that mental health is more of a challenge than the physical side at this point! Good luck in whatever you decide to do hun!:hugs:
