please help me to get my child to sleep!!!!!!!

tbh i am too stubborn i guess i dont wanna miss out? :haha: even when he was tiny and i had the option to nap i didn't cos there was other stuff i wanted to do...and a trip to the park? wouldn't miss it for a nap  thanks though.

..oh and i dont think frank minds at all

 Your crazy, i take every chance to sleep i can. Niamh and i have just woke from a 3 hour nap despite my house looking like a bombs gone off and about 6 hours of programs to watch that iv recorded.

i moved his cot into his room today (was a right mission bloomin mamas and papas 'special size' aka annoyingly large for no apparent reason) so will see if in time that helps

:)

Hope you start to see an improvement soon! Does he need a feed to go back to sleep in the night or just cuddles?

yeah fed to sleep, i am working on cutting down the time of feeds, but i actually think he needs the night feeds cos he drinks alot and despite the effort to up the feeds in the day he still relys on the milk at night i think...i can cope with some night feedings at the moment...i'd rather he slept through obviously, but its how many times he wakes and the not wanting to sleep thing thats the problem

xx

just a quick Q, I know i'm late in the conversation but how long are you persevering with changes before trying something else.

I suggest this as most changes to a routine take anything from 2 weeks to 4 weeks to 'sink in'.

Ever since Q was really young we've done a set routine, started as pjs, sleeping bag, boob then bed and it's slowly built up with distinct changes to what is now bath, pjs, sleeping bag, song/story whilst drinking his milk (we stopped bf at 19 months he self weaned) then put in his cot and i lay along side his cot for upto to an hour some nights as Q fights his sleep. though normally once hes' asleep he does a good stretch.

co-sleeping never worked for us either, we kept waking each other up! at almost 2 he will sleep in our bed now but we sometimes become figures of fun - climbing frame etc!!

Good luck

Does he actually fall asleep on the boob? Just thinking that if so, maybe trying to keep him awake before putting him back in his cot would help, so you know he can fall asleep on his own iyswim.

I found The No Cry Sleep Solution quite helpful, and have heard good things about Dr Jay Gordon's methods, might be worth a read :flower:

he does fall asleep on the boob, thats a good point i should try to keep him awake so he goes down.

i've been trying to sort sleep out sinse 6 months ish, i do stick at it a long while before trying something else. the pick up put down one is the one i have exhausted beyond beleif, and that for us, deffinatly does not work!

i'm going to keep things the same as they were when he was in with me, i dont want to completely scare the crap out of him with going into his room, and not seeing me and stuff, so i'll start trying things in a week or so
:)

Yeah I let F fall asleep on the boob for ages, and it did seem to make a difference when I eventually managed to get him in his cot whilst still [just!] awake.

The lullaby CD has helped us loads, and sorry if you already do it but one thing that's helped us is when I put him down, I do "shhh" noises and then start breathing deliberately deeply/slowly/loudly  I keep my hand on him [used to pat which worked for a while but then he'd get annoyed and try to throw my hand off him!] :haha: and then keep doing the breathing thing...seems to comfort him, helped when trying to stop co-sleeping.

 yeah i do shh noises, well mines more of a constant shhhhhh with the ocasional gasp for breath until hes well asleep.

i did do the patting but then i seemed to think it was waking him up more so i stopped.
sinse hes been able to stand up its been worse cos as soon as he hit the cot he was like nooooo wayyyy, and stood straight up, which meant no chance of sleeping, at least when he couldnt even if he didnt want to go to sleep the cosyness of the cot sometimes tempted him to sleep. lifes just too exciting for him to waste it sleeping lol :dohh:

Aaargh yeah F does that, stands up and shakes the bars! Try the weird heavy breathing thing too though, I actually do it with my nose against my arm to try and make more noise...OH thought I was nuts until he tried it himself and realised it did work :haha:

Have you tried a white noise CD? Or if you have a spare radio you can leave it un-tuned so it just crackles. Not sure if he'd be too old for it now but then if constant shhh-ing works well then it might be worth a try!
