Please Help; Step-Monster-In-Law

She sounds like the sort of person that the question, "Why do you say that?", delivered in a mild tone, with a faintly puzzled smile, was invented for. Apply it to any rude statements she makes.

Then, no matter what the answer is, you reply, in the same mild tone and with the same faintly puzzled smile, "Oh, okay. Well, I don't think that's anything you have to worry about." Works like a charm.

I'm going to try this myself, thanks!

Does she have children of her own?

I'd just think of a few quick come-back replies to her when she says something to you. Nothing that you have to explain or justify your life, but a quick reply back to shut her up.

Something along the lines of:
I feel sorry for the people who don't have children - how lonely it must be for them when they get older.
Or you could say something about not wanting to be an "old mom".

(And please, no one get offended by this. Some people need a quick sting of a reply to shut them up).

Of course, you could just start teasing her and call her grandma every time she brings up how you shouldn't have babies yet. That's probably her fear...being a grandma.
