Hi,
I have had two previous miscarriages one 4 years ago and one in November 2009. After the one in 2009 we started to try again straight away. I found out I was pregnant again in July/ August 2010. I paid for a couple of private scans as I have had miscarriages before. There was a baby with a heart beat I Then after a week or so experienced some bleeding and visited A & E who then sent me for scans who comfirmed there was still a baby with a heart beat. My 12 week scan was booked for 18th October which seemed like forever. Finally the day had come when I thought I could annouce it to all my family and friends. At the scan they said they couldn't get a clear picture of the brain so I was sent to see a specialist the same day. I was being scanned for about an hour as they check everything. I was told they suspected the baby had Holoprosencephaly, this is a condition where the brain is not fully developed. I was then sent for CVS test straight away. When the results came back this was confirmed. I was also told the baby had trisomy 13,18 and 21!!!! they found the baby had several other abnormalities too. I couldn't take everything in. The specialist midwife back at my local hospital said she has never heard of a baby having all three chromosomes and the brain condition at the same time. I wasn't left with a choice in my mind I was told even if I didn't miscarry later on in pregnancy the baby would not survive once born. I went into hospital and delivered the baby who I was told was a little girl. We held a funeral for her in November. It was the worst experience of my life I had several test done as well as my partner at the hospital one of them being chromosone test (they said I would recieve the results within 6 weeks- which i haven't) On Boxing day I had missed my period so took a pregnancy test to find out I was pregnant again- this was a big shock!! I am really happy to be pregnant again- over the moon although I can't help but worry as I haven't had the results back yet and fear I will have to go through it all again
Has any body or does anybody know someone that has been through something similar?? Has anybody conceieved a healthy baby after?
sorry for the essay .....

Hi scoxy.
Im am so sorry to hear about all of your losses. I am so sorry you had such a terrible ordeal with the last pregnancy.
Congratulations on your current pregnancy!!!
I have never been through anything similar, nor do I know of anyone who has.
But if I were you, I would contact the hospital straight away and demand to get my test results back. I would also demand an early scan. They should honour this, as you have experienced 3 losses, including a baby with chromosomal abnormalities.
I hope that you have a happy and healthy 9 months.
Good luck :hugs:
xx

Definitely request your results from the hospital. You need to know those.
Congrats on your BFP and I really hope it is a healthy sticky bean xx

hi scoxy, i am so sorry for your terrible loss, that must have been aweful for you and i cannot imagine having to go through what you went through:cry:
i have just last week suffered i miscarriage myself and feel your loss but also i can say that my cousin had a daughter with Holoprosencephaly- you are only the 2nd person i have ever heard of to have this effect them. it is very rare from what i remember. my cousin and her husband are still busy with court cases against the hospital as they failed to detect that anything was wrong at all with her baby until 38 weeks!!!- when she went for a check-up scan to measure her fluid. and even at that point they didnt diagnose the problem because they didnt know what it was,but what made them think something was wrong was that the head seemed smaller than it should be.

she then had her baby by c-section and was told at the birth that she had downs syndrome-because of the way she looked. obviously after tests they found out it was Holoprosencephaly and said that my cousins baby( who they named kaylin) was not going to live for long, and that baby's with this condition dont normally live to birth. Kaylin lived for just over a year, but she had no quality of life, she was deaf, blind, she had no normal brain function as you said the brain stays as one whole mass and didnt divide. so she never knew when she was hungry or full, or tired or anything, it was so sad.

my cousin and her partner were also tested to see if it was anything genetic, but they found nothing and said it was just nature gone wrong, normally in a case like this a woman would miscarry early on. and they were even asked if they were related! but in the end, my cousin then went on a year later to have a healthy baby girl, and a year after that, a healthy baby boy. they are 6 and 5 now!
i wish you all the luck in the world, and i hope you have a happy, healthy pregnancy and baby xxx
