Hi all,
Just wanted to have a rant on here.
Today I was on the bus with my partner, on the way to our local pub for lunch. We were just minding our business, she had her arm around me, some woman then thought it was her place to call us disgusting lesbians, she then phoned her friend to say that she was sitting on the bus and there was these two disgusting dykes and she had to move because she couldn't LOOK at us as we were so disgusting. This lady had a young baby on her lap and by her own admission was on her way to pick up her other children from school. She wasn't an old lady. Probably early thirties.
We soon got off the bus at our stop, her shouting "dykes!" after us. DP told her to be quiet several times when we were on the bus, but I never want these things to turn into slagging matches.
I just wanted to say, although I know no one here would be as small minded as this ridiculous woman, please think about what you are saying about people. Please think about how what you say will affect that person. Although I was strong in front of this woman, I crumbled as soon as we got to the pub. Literally sobbed for near on half an hour. It has ruined my day completely. For those of you who are not aware, I have been signed off work for the past two weeks with stress and anxiety and things like this are part of the reason why.
I also ask, please, if you see anything like this happen please intervene. Even just to say you don't think it's appropriate. The lady was black, so I don't understand how she didn't think about her actions considering that at some point in her life she had probably been victimised over her skin colour. Like sexuality, it's something that you can't change.
If every person here can help educate someone they know, who is maybe to as broad minded as themselves, the world will be a better place. I'm sick of being judged for who I am. It's not fair to be judged on race, sex, sexuality, weight, hair colour, eye colour or whatever else.
