Hi Ladies. I am in my second IVF cycle (in the 2WW) and it really depends on clinics and the all important postcode. Some regions get it paid, some not.
For me i had to be referred by GP and i had to be trying for 2 years. I then was referred to consultant to do a large number of blood tests at specific times of month and then lots of examinations. This took about a year.
I had a choice of clinics but the one i went to required everyone to attend a consultation, and these happen monthly. Then you have to have a 1:1 with their consultant which normally is within weeks, mine was the next day. Then IF you want to proceed (their words not mine), you can start the next month but that depends on whether you smoke (as they require you to be smoke free for x months), be under the BMI set by the clinic and it depends on your circumstances. I started mine the next month, and was sniffing at day 21 for about 2 weeks, then i had my bleed and about 10 days later i was injecting, and from then it was 2 weeks until collection, and i got to 5 day transfer.
SO... my advice is contact your gp as soon as you can but also research funding on the website, and research clinics. there is no guarantee at any stage of the process and when i was waiting last year, i still booked my July holiday. It did mean i missed the monthly seminar - so it did put me back a month but you will soon see that putting life on hold is not always easy, or good for the soul.
Good luck with your journeys and whatever you decide. It certainly isn't easy but if it brings me a child, every injection, sniffing, and appointment will have been worth it x
