I weigh about 219 size 16 US. I have my first prenatal visit tomorrow (at 5 + 4) and am scared the doctor will make me feel badly about my weight.

Has anyone ever encountered this?

All doctors are different, but mine didn't say a word and Im about 255lbs, 5'9" and a size 20. The only time it came up is when I ASKED how much weight I should gain since I read I should only gain 11-20 lbs. She said I can gain from 20-35 lbs, but they weren't weight Nazis there and as long as I'm healthy that is what's important.

I would also like to add--- if your doctor is more concerned about making you feel bad than your overall health, then I would get a different doctor. Of course they are going to discuss how much weight you should gain and how you should be eating healthy, but they shouldn't criticize you.

My regular OB did talk to me about weight just what the pp said how much to gain or what I eat but nothing mean or hateful but bc I have diabetes and high blood pressure I had to see a specialist who made me feel like crap bc am over weight I was 190 and size 8/10 when I got my BFP but now weigh about 207 my drs said its fine and ok

Totally agree what she said about dr being more concerned about weight than your health def get another dr am going to talk to my OB about the specialist

I wouldn't worry hun! Mine didn't make me feel bad about my weight at all, and I'm about 290 pounds at the moment. I'm 5'11 so I basically look like a female hagrid! (bushy hair and all!) :p the only thing she said was that due to my BMI being over 30 I think, there was a new rule that I had to have an early glucose tolerance test, I went in so guarded thinking I'd receive a huge lecture, but nup!

Good luck! x

I can't wait for it either... Not! Lol
I'm heavier now than I was and the end of my last pregnancy at 40+5 weeks pregnant.
So I was good weight with both my boys so never had to worry about it but now I'm rather worried at about how differently I will be treated now I'm bigger. I only seen midwives last two times but I have to seen an OB tomorrow because I had some bleeding and things.

Many doctors will treat you fairly even if you are over weight. Yes, it would've been nice if we all lost weight before conceiving, but the fact is we are overweight and pregnant so they just need to get over it. If you're doctor makes you feel bad about it get another doctor. You deserve to be treated with respect and most doctors will. I was worried about my first appointment to and everyone was just lovely. Try not to worry.

I'm over 300 pounds and am on my third pregnancy. I really hope you have some options on where to go. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable with yourself, I hope you're able to leave there and find a new doctor. I've got 2 perfect babies and have had two PERFECT pregnancies and even PERFECT natural deliveries. My sister, who's also quite big, also had 2 perfect pregnancies, although she needed c-sections, which were no big deal at all for her! I know that some doctors love to SCARE plus size folks and make us feel like we're going to have awful pregnancies. It's simply not true!

No one at my Dr's office has said anything. I weigh about that now that I've gained 15lbs since I got pregnant. I worry about it but they all say I'm perfectly fine so now worries yet...

I completely understand, I also have an appt today with the doctor and am just afraid of what he will say. I'm a size 22 US. Just keeping my fingers crossed that everthing goes well.

Keep us updated

The only thing my OB said is that since im overweight she said i might want to take an extra 400 mcg folic acid...its a B vitamin, so if it isnt needed, ill just pee any extra out anyway, and theyre good and cheap, especially when kroger runs BOGO on bottles of 150! Other than that they told me apx 20 lbs that is ok to gain..and im okay to keep walking for exercise, though i'd love to do prenatal water aerobics!
