Hi ladies.
Has anyone got any experience with polyhydramnios?
I was diagnosed with a mild case of it at 28 weeks. At 30 weeks it had risen again slightly.
(I have regular growth scans due to previous premature emcs)

I've been asked to go in again next week (31 weeks) so they can do another scan to check umbilical cord. And then another growth scan at 32 weeks (also to check fluid).
Had a glucose diabetes test last week that came back normal.

Baby had jumped up to the 90th percentile at 28 weeks... At 30 weeks he was back down to 50th percentile.

I'm really confused and my consultants aren't telling me much.

How foolish of me to hope for a relaxed pregnancy this time round!! Lol.

Any advice ladies?

What would you like to know Hun? I had this in my previous pregnancy, are there any other markers for concern with the baby that have been mentioned to you? Please don't google it only gives horror stories when often everything is fine! Will be happy to help in anyway possible. Do you know what your "afi" is? X

I had this with my 2nd baby...all turned out totally fine!!! The chart that indicates high levels of fluid...mine were WAY above he top amount listed. It was basically off the charts!
They discovered this at 35 weeks I think it was. *sometimes* it can be an indicator as an issue, they told me my daughter had an enlarged heart based on 3 different ultrasounds.
Use to all the fluid my daughter kept flipping into breech position(which is why the initially did the u/s).
Love story short, my daughter was flipping all over the place, head down to breech every day. At 39+4 they decided that since my daughter was head down, they would break my water, to ensure the cord did not fall out (cord prolapse), 6 hrs later after my labour had started, she flipped once again, and I ended up with a csection. Specifically a vertical csection which means I'm no longer allowed vaginal births, I'm not a candidate for a vbac.
Sooooo....once she was born they also had to do a ton of tests on her heart since the u/s's had indicated a large heart....and guess what, she was totally healthy and fine!! They said that u/s's done with a too much amniotic fluid can make things LOOK larger than they actually are, when in fact nothing is wrong.
The doctors will continue to send you for scans, and if they think there's any issues they will induce you early.
Having high levels of fluid can bring on preterm labour, etc so that's why they really watch you, and not to alarm you but it can sometimes be an indicator that somethings going on with baby, but majority of cases it's not an issue...like I said my daughter had markers on her heart that showed up on u/s yet she was completely healthy and fine!!! So u/s's aren't always accurate!!

Reid's legs where in the bottom percentile, his head and tummy where in the top percentile so they thought there may be something wrong. I was due to be induced a few days early but went into labour at 39 weeks. like the poster above, Reid turned out to be just fine other than having swallowed a lot of fluid at birth. Birth was very quick but I don't know if that had Anytning to do with the poly.

Jen have you had any sign of it happening again so far? X

Thanks both for your replies!! I can't find an awful lot of info on it, and of course, I went and googled it and freaked myself out!

Elmo, no idea what my afi measurements are but the maximum pool depth is 9.6cm.
At 28 weeks it was 9.1cm so it's risen a small amount.
Obviously it's a mild case atm as the top end of normal is 8cm.
I'm just gearing myself up for my 32 week scan because the consultant said then he'll have a better idea of whether it's an issue or not.

They haven't mentioned anything that could be an Iditarod for anything... They checked him for cleft lip as they said that could cause an issue with swallowing fluid but it all looked fine on the scan.
His stomach, kidneys and bladder all look good.

Gestational diabetes was mentioned as a probability but my results were normal.

I'm not even sure what I posted for if I'm perfectly honest... I'm just abit gutted... I was hoping for a smoother pregnancy this time.

Honestly Hun with it being quite mild (I wish I remembered what mine was) you may find that it doesn't effect you at all and I can even sort it's self out by your next scan. Do try not to worry because it sounds as though everything is fine and if you can, they see it as a positive even as it means then will be looking after you that little bit more! :)

Well with my 3rd baby after my daughter I didn't have the same issue, but they monitored me, as they will do the same with this baby (my 4th).
I'm in Canada so the charts are a bit different from other countries. I think the highest the chart goes here for fluid level is 25 or 26 and mine was at 29.1. Crazy high.
I also didn't have gestational diabetes which can be an indicator. So I'm not really sure what was going on....but all turned out completely fine, my daughter was healthy as anything.

I had it with DS, though mine was quickly attributed with undiagnosed GD. At the time I was checked for various other things that could have possibly caused it, including toxoplasmosis. I was told though that it was very common to have it with no apparent reason as well.

Even though my fluid levels came back down under the excessive amount, I was still right near the maximum boundary for what could pass for normal.

Only thing I can tell you with it, that despite all the scare stories when googling it, all was well for me and DS. Though when my waters broke there was no denying it as a floodgate might as well had opened.
