I had a appointment with a consultant due to fundal height being 6 weeks ahead since 27 weeks, she wrote the above word in my notes with 'send for scan' next to it. Can anyone tell me what it means as i dont want to google and worry?? :)

It is extra amniotic fluid. Don't goggle it. I have it and it terrified me. This condition can be caused by a lot of different things but in most cases the reason is never known, or it is tied to GD. There is a small chance that it can be caused by a defect in the baby but you should have had your anatomy scan already and know whether that is a chance. In most cases it doesn't cause any problems, but they need to monitor you if you have it because with the added weight your waters could break early, or when they do if the babies head is not fully engaged the rush of fluid could pull the cord out first and it could be compressed. These are worst case though. From my research most cases of this go on to resolve themselves before the baby is ever born. If you have any other questions I will try to answer but I am learning about it as I go.

My GTT was clear hun, And anatomy scan was clear as far as i was aware. They are hoping to get me scanned within the next few days, the consultant didnt really say much just wrote polyhydramnios? in my notes!!
I have SPD and am on crutches too so not finding this easy! Thank you i really didnt want to google!! :)

Your welcome. In your case it will probably never be known what caused it. Most cases are like that. I have it because of GD.

With my son I had polyhydramnios and spd, was housebound and almost in a wheelchair. My fundal height was always ahead. Measured 42 weeks at 32 weeks. I was carrying an 8lb baby at the end too. They wanted to induce me on my due date but my waters broke and I gave birth before my appointment. They never found a reason for my polyhydramnios and a few hours after my son was born we was taken to scbu to put tube down his nose into his stomach and take xrays to make sure there was no blockage but he was fine. You will get uncomfortable if it gets worse and I hope your waters don't break naturally, was horrific....there was so much! But don't worry about it.

I am hoping my scan tomorrow will come up as okay, although midwife felt my bump today and still thinks theres an awful lot of waters! Measuring 38cm at 32+6, My SPD is getting worse, i dont know what to do as i still have to get on with day to day life!?! :(

I know this isn't much help but you're so close to the end. As soon as you have your baby you'll be more comfortable. Do try to rest as much as you can.

Thank you, it does help to realise there isnt much longer left x

i'm in a similar situation. since 19 weeks they've told me i was measuring big- said baby boy was in the 95%! i had to do monthly measurement scans. a few weeks ago they said he's slowed down and now in the 64% but that my fluid levels were borderline high. they sent me for weekly scans now! i've been 3 weeks so far and each visit they tell me my levels are lower. my next monthly scan is after xmas so they should have more info then (i'll let you know what they say). they've sent me for 2 3-hour GTT because of all this and each time it comes back normal, so they say there is "probably no reason for it"... doesnt really make me feel better, but at the same time i'm glad there isn't a BAD reason for it! they keep telling me not to worry, so i'm trying to take their advice and just be glad i'm getting all the extra monitoring and extra scans so i can see my little guy so often :)

It can indicate a birth defect not noticeable on the scans. Its rare but it does happen which is why they like to monitor closely even if there isn't an obvious reason for it at this stage. DD's condition could have caused her to suffocate at birth or needing an emergency tracheotomy. Neither of these happened but due to a lot of complications we had a lot of specialists in the room when she was born

Had my scan yesterday and fluid levels are normal!! :) babys estimated weight at 33+1 is 5.5lb!!

I'm glad things have leveled out for you.

They told me I had too much fluid, then after further scans decided it was fine, then decided I had too much again!

Turned out to be no reason for it that anyone could tell, but they insisted on putting a nasogastric tube in the baby when she was born and doing an x ray to make sure there wasn't any problems with her esophagus - just mentioning this so you're not alarmed if they suggest the same thing. It's a quick five minute test (assuming the xray technician isn't delayed for hours like ours was!) but they wouldn't let us try to feed before it was done.

Update: my weekly scans had been showing a steady decrease in levels. U had a monthly measurement scan 2 weeks ago. Levels were 14 and he weighed 5.2 (this was 32 weeks). Went today for my weekly scan and somehow my levels doubled and are now 26! They don't know why. Now in stressing again! :(
