I'm 44 almost 45 years old and I have two children, ages 8 and 10. I know the chances of conceiving naturally at my age are around 1% at best. Anyways, my period was late by two days and took a HPT which came back positive that I was pregnant and this was not planned and occurred naturally. I'm in great shape and definitely not overweight. My partner finished chemo (ABVD) for Lymphoma in Dec of 13 and I know they usually say to wait a year or two post chemo in case of damaged/altered DNA to the sperm but that didn't happen. So based on my partner's recent bout with 6 months worth of chemo, my age, the great possibilities of Down Syndrome or any other chromosomal issues that are great, and the 80% + of having a MC @my age, what do you all think? I've never miscarried before at least not to my knowledge. Do you guys think that my miscarry rate based on all the factors is just too much or that I still have a great shot of having a healthy baby? Don't be afraid to post honest opinions. Thanks

Hi
I read your post and felt compelled to reply, not because I know anything about these things, because I don't, but maybe help put your mind at ease.

First of all congratulations :) I understand the stresses of external factors. This is my 4 th pregnancy but two of those were miscarriages and I'm currently just 6 weeks. I stress daily too about things beyond my control.

Maybe the best thing to do is try to relax. Easier said than done. Perhaps this baby is meant to be. Also don't doctors over exaggerate time frames for these things. Maybe they say two years just to be sure. Wait and see ( I'm also worried about genetic tests etc as I'm 35). I'm keeping fingers crossed for everyone :) I wish you a h & h 9 months and a h & h babe.

It's easy to get worried about risk factors but many people have healthy babies in their 40s.

I'm 42 just got BFP. Unplanned so all natural. I get nervous because I'm reading how so many women our age have to use progesterone and the go in for testing every few weeks! I have 1 dd, 16 and no known miscarriages. Do we really need to worry? Are you more concerned with the problems with age or the chemo effects?
I would love to have a buddy who is my age with natural conception. Most of the women our age ttc for months and had help conceiving. Lol i don't understand half the tests they are taking! But downs syndrome is definitely something they inform us older mums is a good possibility. I met a lady last year. 46, naturally conceived twins healthy. So I'm in agreeance with spudtastic that while we should have concerns we should enjoy these pregnancies. When are you due?

I think chances are still high if you have conceived. You had your first two later than 'normal', so it's not that difficult to imagine that you are still fertile.

You should definitely visit your OB early and have your progesterone levels checked. Low progesterone is an easily correctable problem that causes miscarriage.

Congrats and good luck!
