Hi Ladies!

I'm feeling very sad at the moment  I had my second monitoring appointment today after 8 days of stims for our 1st IVF cycle. I was always told I was at risk of OHSS but you doth think it will happen until it does. i was started on a low dose of gonal f at 112.5iu.

I have about 50 follies in total with 30 of them being over 10mm, which my clinic classes as responding to the stimming. My two lead follies are 15mm. My estrogen is 10'000. They warned me that I may not be able to have a fresh transfer, so they will freeze eggs and I will have to have an FET in three months

Two days prior (6 days after stimming) I had 10/15 follies that they thought were responding and estrogen was 3600, but it's rocketed now. They have told me to lower my dose for 2 nights to 75iu and go back Monday. If I have two follies 18mm I will trigger that evening for collection Wednesday, that is when they decide based on eggs collected and estrogen level. I am devastated I may have to wait 3 months.

Some questions rattling round my head.
Did this happen to you?
What was your estrogen level at collection?
How many follies did you have at collection?
How many eggs did they collect?
Did you have OHSS?
Do you think i will still be able to have a fresh transfer?

Thank you so much x

Hello! I was also at risk of OHSS (due to having PCOS) and so they put me on low stims too. In fact I ended up being on low stims for about 20 days in all. I kept worrying that the clinic would cancel my cycle but they didn't and were brilliant. I ended up with 40+ follicles and tbh I lost count with how many were the "right" size in the end. The good thing is that they kept adjusting my medication according to how I was responding and it sounds like your clinic are doing the same for you. I KNOW how impossible it is not to worry. I don't think I've ever felt so stressed but the clinic knows what it's doing and it really is doing the best for you as they don't want you to end up in hospital. Fingers crossed that it all calms down a bit and that ec and et can go ahead.

Hi Abby,

Just read your post. I hope you're ok. The main thing is try not to panic or second guess anything. This process is so hard, but you can make things worse for yourself by trying to think too far ahead and driving yourself nuts.

Say to yourself that you are going to put all these awful feelings into a box in your head, see yourself closing the lid on it, ready to open it again when you get to the clinic tomorrow. It is so hard, but you don't know for definite what will happen yet. Be good to yourself today, do something you enjoy or get the other half to do something nice for you.

If you are pushed on for an FET and get pregnant, you'll look back and see that it was worth it.

Keep me posted.

Liz x

hi there sorry your feeling sad.
i had OHSS and had to wait 3 months be 4 embryo transfer i was upset but i just used the 3 months to get as fit as i could ready for ET. i had 32 eggs and 19 0f were good it gave me another go at a embryo transfer the year after both was natural cycles and both times i got BFP's.

Hope all go's well for u hunny x

Please. Just wanted to say that my first IVF/ICSI failed. I had one embroyo back the first time. Although I wasn't diagnosed with OHSS, the FS thought that I may have had a degree of it. Naturally was very upset. I had the wait 6 months for next cycle. Some of this was to do with the fact that my AF did not regulate straight away. 6 months later I also had a natural FET like janey . Two grade 1, 8,7 cell embies were put back. One stuck and am now nearly 15 weeks pregnant with a singleton. Remember also (looking at your signature) I am over 10 years older than you. So, if it can work for me, it will definately work for you. So keep hopeful. Having lots of frozen embies is also a good thing. Considering some people don't end up with any. I have 3 still in the freezer and may well go back for more one day. However, I need to get through this pregnancy first!xxx

Just wondering, I mentioned the OHSS problem and having to wait 3 months after for transfer to my nurse yesterday on the phone. What is the reason you would have to wait so long? My nurse said they go right at it next cycle. I know everyone's FS does things different, but wondering does it depend on your levels and how they go down?

The problem is psp, after OHSS some people take quite along time to recover. Although I didn't have full on OHSS, on my first cycle after, failed IVF AF didn't arrive until 43days later. My clinic makes you wait three full cycles for treatment. Lots of research I have read suggests it is beneficial to give your body a rest after OHSS. Also if the body is well rested and regulated the next cycle is more likely to work. I think it depends on how your body recovers. I waited 6 months, and although was frustrated by it, now feel it was right for me. Its all down to the individualx

makes sense! thanks! Hopefully I won't have to worry about that!:winkwink:

I had ICSI/IVF in May 2007. I had 56 follicles and had OHSS. We did not cancel the cycle and put 2 babies back. I did have 2 healthy babies from the cycle, so it was completely worth it.

BUT the OHSS with pregnancy is ridiculously painful. The c-section was less painful. I had to be monitored very closely, the dr was worried about ovarian torsion. I was so bloated I immediately looked 5 months pregnant. I had the symptoms of OHSS up until 16 weeks of pregnancy. It hurt to breath. The doctor said if a woman is not pregnant, the OHSS resolves itself much quicker; but due to the pregnancy hormones and competing space, it is awful.

Thank you all for your posts, it means alot for you to have took the time to reply. Unfortunately we didnt get as far as freezing the embryos. Last Monday at my last monitoring appointment I had 30 follicles, on Wednesday I had 29 eggs collected all mature. It was confirmed they would place the eggs with the sperm over night and would freeze the embryos Thursday and I would have a frozen transfer in 2/3 months. On Thursday my world fell apart when they confirmed no eggs had fertilised, they do not no why as all eggs where of a high maturity and sperm sample very good. We have a follow up appointment tomorrow where i hope to get some answers. xxx

Please - I am so sorry to hear that. Hope you can get some answers and a certain plan going forward. I assume they'll talk to you about doing ICSI next time (which was what my IVF session got turned into due to poor sperm sample) to try and encourage fertilisation. Good luck.

Please I am so so sorry. As Mich said maybe next time they will do ICSI. This does improve fertilisation. Just know that we are all thinking of you. I know everything seems awful now, but be positive that things will work out for youxxxxxxx

Once again thank you all for your support. I had my follow up appointment Yesterday, they confirmed all 29 eggs were of high maturity and husbands sperm was the best it's been at 60 million, 2.5ml, 7% morph. Apparently the sperm were not binding to the eggs, something to do with the receptors in the sperm and egg not communicating it seems our sperm and eggs are not compatible without ICSI. At least we know there is a reason we have never had a BFP. So ICSI it is going forward. Also confirmed they will put me on same protocol but start me off on a lower dose 75iu and if need be drop it to 37.5iu and maybe collect eggs earlier. They really don't want me to over respond again, a fresh
transfer is the aim. Unfortunately it dose count as one of our funded cycles : ( but can't complain as we are very lucky to get 3 cycles. With the funding your normally have to wait 6 months between fresh cycles but the DR said cos I didn't get to transfer I can start on my third AF, about 11 weeks away, give my body time to settle before I screw it up again. Sorry im babbling on, but feeling quite pleased. X
