Are you currently potty training your toddler? Have you recently successfully potty trained and want to pass on your wisdom and expertise (pleeeeeeeeease lol :flower:)? Come and chat, moan, gloat, ask a question, etc.

I'm Chellie, currently 30 weeks pregnant with my third and mama to Arthur (27 months) and Violet (13 months) We've just started potty training Arf and I actually don't know if I'm coming or going with it lol. We aren't using pants yet as I realised that was a bit ambitious but basically whenever we're in the house he is nappy-less and so far we've had numerous wee's on the floor but we've also had a few on the potty and two poos on the potty too :happydance::happydance: I was so surprised lol, I thought it'd take ages to get him to poo on it. I really don't want to push it too much though because I don't want to overwhelm him. He isn't that interested in the potty and I do think he'll happily just ignore that he needs to go and do it on the floor when he can't hold it any longer :dohh: That's unless he's sat watching Big Barn Farm of course, in which case he'll sit on the thing til the end of time if he gets to watch that over and over again lol :dohh:

If anyone fancies coming to chat, what's your experience like? Also, it'd be great to hear from some of you that have recently graduated from the potty training academy hehe, so please come and pass on your tips :flower:

Thanks for starting this.

I'm Anna, mummy to Kate (28 months). We've been trying a relaxed approach and were having quite a good run but in the last couple of days she's stopped being interested and is refusing to use the loo/potty.

We have a potty but she prefers the toilet (when she's interested) and I'm reading potty training girls. We also have a book called who's in the loo from my sister. Kate thinks it's hilarious.

Any tips great fully received, this is the thing I've been most nervous about.

Chellie, I can't believe you are last tri already. Hope all is going well.

Thanks for suggesting it instead of a sticky hun :flower:

I wish I could even take the approach of using a book to encourage potty training but I don't think he would understand :nope: His speech and language isn't very good at all yet so I think it's hard to communicate the fun in potty training, so that's why I've been allowing him to watch his favourite tv show whilst he sits on the potty  He won't sit on the toilet, even with the seat we got him :dohh:

It's such a minefield. I have to wonder if he's even ready but I don't want to take too many steps back now but then also I don't want it to just be on-going.

Hi ladies,

would you mind if i joined you for future advice and help?

My DD is 17months and I have no intention of potty training yet but I am trying to show her things that may help me in the furture.

At the minute we have a potty in the bathroon and show her this but havent made her sit on it or anything. as we live in a cottage my wee girl always follows me down to the toilet and i let her see me doing a pee. we sometimes set her on the toilet while we are waiting for the bath to fill up and she is getting undressed.

my SIL had all her kids potty trained at 18-20months and im a wee but annoyed at the feeling of pressure thats put on me. most of my friends potty trained their kids at 2.5 years to 3years.

I would love to know what tips help you etc if you dont mind me bumping in lol!!!

Hi Ladies,

I started to potty train my daughter who is now 27 months on Monday, we have had no wee/poo in the potty yet, the floor has won every time. She is just not interested in the potty at all and we have tried sitting her on the toilet. I have started to wonder if she is actually ready or not? xx

That's a good idea. I think part of the problem with Kate is her wanting to be doing something else. The bathroom isn't very exciting. We do singing when she is on the toilet which sometime works but if she's left something she is often keen to get back to it.

18-20 months is very early to be potty trained. It must be horrible to have that added pressure.

My LO is also my toilet companion, (well girls do go to the toilet in pairs) she started by asking to sit on the loo when I went. I think this is why she probably prefers the toilet.

Hi Pingu, I remeber you from the tri boards.

I've been wonering the same about Kate. I'm also finding it hard to get some consistency, she goes to nursery 2.5 days and is with my sister 2 days.

Hi ladies! Fran is only 16 months but I'll be stalking this thread for tips. My little princess is an absolute wriggle bum and rarely stays in one place longer than a few seconds. We have a cheap potty lying around the lounge so she's used to seeing one but she tends to stand in it or put it on her head lol!

Hi girls :)

Daisy is 27 months and we began Potty Training just this Monday. Today we braved our first trip out and had no accidents :happydance:

Its soooo stressful, but I think Daisy has taken to it amazingly.

Monday we had ALL wee's on the floor. The start of the day she wouldnt entertain the idea of using the potty. By late afternoon she would let me sit her on it. We've now had 2 whole days of no accidents.

Its so stressfull and I cant wait til the day I can feel more relaxed popping out, but I think just 6 days of potty training shes doing so well :cloud9:

I dont really have any tips as such. I ask her so frequently if she needs a wee, if she says no and a long period of time has passed I encourage her to sit on the potty, even sitting her on myself at times. I give her one little treat, be it a biscuit, chocolate finger etc each time she manages to wee on the potty. Shes so proud and helps me carry the potty to the toilet (fun!) and tip it down and she gets to flush the toilet. I think this really helps as she enjoys that part. Its only been the last 2 days I've bothered with knickers and she says 'knickers off mummy' when she goes to sit on the potty. Shes done a couple of wees now completely off her own back.

tbh I think the biggest thing is, dont put them back in a nappy once you've started!!

xx

Hello I am mom to Kailee age 27 months. We have been trying to potty train with little success. She was doing good for a few weeks going at least once a day on the potty but decided to stop so we are slowing trying again.
Recently I let her pick her own underwear at the store but she doesn't seem to under to not go in them so the floor gets peed on more then in the potty.
I have tried rewards but nothing seems to interest her so I'm stuck at what more to try.

Hey all, sorry I've not been back to say hi to everyone, we've been away for a couple of days and just got back tonight. Great to read how well peoples LO's seem to be doing. Unfortunately we have taken a few steps back because we didn't want to take the risk of any accidents on the floor of the hotel room :dohh:

We shall be resuming as of tomorrrow morning.

Katie is currently being potty trained.

I have been bribing her with Jaffa Cakes.

When she has a wee she get's one :)

Daisy's done, can't believe how easy she took to it, we're so lucky. All I can advise from our experience is just stay in keeping them bottomless. Don't go back to nappies at all. Lots of praise and keep reminding them. Good luck to you all xxx

Hi ladies!

Joe is going to be 3 in a couple of weeks and I've started to stress about his potty training status (or lack thereof! :nope:) We've tried a few times from 24 months onwards, but nothing. The last 3 days we've been relaxed about giving it another go, 2 wees a day on the potty, 1 pair of wet pants and today he ran to the potty (after wet pants) screaming wee wee and did the tiniest little dribble. Proud mommy moment.....then he lost all interest.
I find myself needing to use nappies a lot because we have been out quite often over the last few days.
Food bribes seem to work with Joe. Must try harder. I need a few days at home with him, hard when I work full time
Anyone else out there with an almost 3 year old, still not trained?
Good luck girls, I hope we crack if soon!

Anyone had experience of a child that by the development tick boxes is ready to potty train but just refuses to? Eloise is 25 months and ticks all the "ready" boxes but when I ask her if she wants to do a wee-wee on the potty she just says no and asks me to put a nappy on her.

Not sure whether just to go cold turkey on her nappies, or just keep on waiting until she decides she is ready?

We've definitely hit a blockade of some description lol. Are just refuses to go on the potty and will hold it and hold it until he can't any longer than he just goes where he is :dohh: He doesn't seem to be associating needing a wee with going on the potty at all so I think we might leave it for a month and try again. We feel like we are completely tied to the house because of not having him in a nappy and both kids have just been a nightmare. Disappointed because I would have liked to have him out of nappies before Squishy arrives :nope:

Hello :flower: I seen the link in MrsB's signature :D Brilliant idea for a thread.

My little boy is 2 years 3 months. I've not really started potty training. Whenever he has his nappy off I've tried sitting him on his potty and asking if he needs to go but I'm not sure if he's interested.

I liked the suggestion of just taking him out his nappy one day and see how it goes. Floors can be cleaned after all :haha:

i have a week off work at the start of Sept and my mum amd MIL both said to try then, they said to stay inside and never ever out a nappy back on. least if theres any accidents its not a problem when at home. Il gear myself up for then. At the minute her wee teddy has a pee pee in the potty in the morning lol!!!!

Hi  I'm mummy to Sophie who is 26.5 months, but she SHOULD only be turning 2 next week, as she was 13 weeks premature.

She knows when her nappy needs to be changed, and she tells me "icky", and accompanies me to the toilet :haha: She also says "peepee" when the poor cat is in his litter box so I think she understands enough to start. Her speech is great so I'm hoping she will understand what I'm trying to do!

I'm scared though  I'm so glad to have found this thread, because I have absolutely no clue where to start. So far, we've let her have a bit of nakey time at bathtime while I'm running her bath, and her potty is in the bathroom. She's had 2 pees in it but they were both flukes because I saw it happening and put her onto the potty! She has also had one poo in it but also a fluke.

I just took her nappy off her and got her potty out but she started saying "clean nappy on" and wouldn't go near her potty. She wasn't happy till I put a nappy back on her.

We have carpets everywhere except the bathroom and kitchen so I'm a bit reluctant to let her have nappy off time all the time!
