Looking some advice on potty training please!

DD is 2 1/4 and we've been potty training for 4 days. She seems to be catching on to it really well - a few accidents, but even managed to take herself to the potty and use it successfully once today as I was putting her brother to bed upstairs. I've deliberately avoided leaving the house as much as possible to give her a good chance at it.

But obviously I'm going to have to go out again with her, including going out for dinner for granda's birthday an hour's drive away on Sunday.

I'm wondering about whether to keep her in her cotton pants in the car and/or at the restaurant and risk an accident, or to use a pull up? I used a pull-up when I had to go to the doctor's yesterday and the wee tinker used the opportunity to do her business when she didn't have to do them in the potty - I recognised her poo face but she denied it even though it was very obvious! whereas the pants seem to motivate her to use the potty better as she doesn't want to dirty them the same.

What did/would you do for car journeys and social situations in the early days?

We never used pull ups. Id say ask her to use the potty before you set out, and as soon as you get there. Could always put her in a different outfit and change her once your there.
First time we took LO on a journey was about 1 week after we started, we had to catch 2 busses to the hospital... i was sure he wouldnt make it but he did. Maybe take a potty in the car so if she needs to go you can take her without having to find somehwere with a toilet. While out, just keep asking and take her regularly. Wasnt to hard for me since im pregnant and need to pee every 5 minutes.

We just go cold turkey... Minimise social trips the first couple of weeks and take a potty with you x

We never used Pull Ups. When we went out I would just constantly ask her if she needed to use the bathroom. Most of the time the trips were so short it wasn't an issue. :flow:

We travel 1 hour every day in the car so while ds 1 is still having lots of accidents we use pull ups for the car x

Don't they have pads you can put on the car-seat in order to protect it in case of accidents? I think I'd put something on the seat to protect it and keep her in underwear. The worst that happens is you have to change her clothes and do a little cleaning.

I have no idea when I would venture out without a diaper. It will be a scary day when it comes! Or maybe not. I don't know.

We never used pull ups either. I honestly believe it just confuses them & DS caught on so quickly (he was also 2 & quarter when we potty trained).

In the car seat & buggy for the first couple of weeks, I put an old cushion or towel down but he did really well & never needed it in the end.

In social situations, I just kept reminding him & would take our potty for the first few weeks after training him at home so he had his familiar potty.
